Called my girlfriend this morning & Discount Dial, has gone up a penny to 8 pence per minute.
I dialled the normal no. 0871 7727 171 & was instructed to dial a new no. 0871 5518 585...Seems to have changed over night? :Erm:

Glad to be back on here, as I've had no internet connection, for a month except for about 3 days, about a week ago...Not sure my computer is working properly now? :bigcry:

How strange? Will try it again tomorrow. Maybe it was because I was calling a mobile? A recorded voice, said I was calling a mobile phone in the Philippines.

The discount dial web site says

philippines landline 08717727171 7p/min
philippines mobile 08715516565 8p/min

I'm sure it never use to have a different number for mobiles.

My wife tried to use the original 7p/min number last night to ring a mobile and got a recorded message, though oddly it gave a different number to the one on the website - 08715518585.

I tried it a few times, but I always get the message, "Unfortunately due to capacity problems, it is currently not possible to use this service...".
Perhaps, its to do with my location? (Suffolk)

I now use 08713437474 (9p Telediscount).

Cheers,

We're in suffolk too and my wife hasn't had any real problems with discount dial. Think she has been using them for at least a year now.

I just tried it again, no luck! :( Perhaps, I'm just unlucky! I'm using BT line. :Erm:

7p is only for landline. Mobile is 12p. Many in the Philippines use mobile.

Might just be down to the time of day. She mainly uses it either early morning or late evening.

Cheers,

Fair point I rarely use it,there is also a 4p connection - there also seems to be a fair bit of usage of these pre pay cards I 'spose they offer a cheap rate per min to mobiles

Called Discount Dial again this morning & yes, you get the normal message saying 7 pence per min.
When I dialled my girlfriends mobile number, got the message again, to dial the other number at 8 pence per min.

A lot of 087 numbers are changing at the moment not sure why and also some mobile companies are increasing the charges considerably in the next few weeks.

But in your case with two sets of 0871 i think it maybe they possibly use a different connection/provider (they mainly buy free capacity of the phone companies from what i read) for mobiles and landlines?

Just to add people beware if you use 087/0845 numbers on a mobile they will all cost a lot more 30-35 p a mintue on vodafone even 0800 calls are now 30 p a min for the first three mintues then 10 p on vodafone.
From a quick glance the other providers are doing the same.

the costs for the cheap call lines may well be higher im not sure yet. So you pay the 30 or 35 p then the cost on top.

Even if you only use them in a emegency its worth bearing in mind these prices rises are huge whichever way round.

Does any one have any more info?

But not very many of the phone ones will have a backdoor.

Now most companies have caught on sadly the number exists but does not put you though, used to use that website a lot a few years back.

Yes, be CAREFUL, for example, T-mobile have upped their charge for using 0871 from 10p to 20p. (Increasing their costs to use this number to an extra 12p per minute now). :yikes::yikes::doh:doh:Cuckoo::Cuckoo:
