Magellan's Cross is a Christian cross (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_cross) planted by Portuguese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portugal) and Spanish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spain) explorers as ordered by Ferdinand Magellan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Magellan) upon arriving in Cebu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cebu_Island) in the Philippines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippines) on April 21 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_21), 1521 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1521).
This cross is housed in a small chapel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapel) next to the Basilica Minore del Santo Niņo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_Minore_del_Santo_Ni%C3%B1o) on Magallanes Street (Magallanes being the Spanish name of Magellan), just in front of the city hall of Cebu City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cebu_City). A sign below the cross claims that the original cross is encased inside the wooden cross that is found in the center of this chapel.
