going to cebu 16th december for xmas to see my darling wife and family, in a dilemma, spouse visa application in 10th week so just hopefully here something soon.18th december will be the 13 weeks limit for spouse visa.
do i take a gamble and book her a flight and get her on the same flight as me, will be in cebu until 15th jan, so hopefully have good news,
it is cheaper booking a return flight from uk and not use the outward leg,how do you stand with the airline,do you have to notify them and make some excuse but tell them that you will be using the return flight,
hoping this will be successful, this will be trip number 21 in 4 years, trying to stay relaxed and have positive visa decision,

Hello PeterJ
I used to work in an international travel agency before and to tell you, buying a roundtrip ticket for your wife without the intention of using the outbound segment will put you in a not-so-good situation due to the fact that airlines in general will automatically cancel the inbound segment or the remaining segments once their system has determined that the outbound segment has not been used. Some passengers would usually prefer to buy a roundtrip ticket because it's normally cheaper than buying a one-way ticket, but this situation will only work to your advantage if the passenger will use the outbound segment and just ignoring the inbound one.
Hope this helps.

You may have problems trying to use the return flight without using the outbound flight, though I think you'll find it will be cheaper to book a single flight from the Philippines anyway.
When we did it my wife (then my fiancee) had her visa issued on the 8th January, and we then booked her on the same flight as me on the 21st January - I think it worked out at not much more than half the cost of my return ticket.

I suggest you contact the airline. I know that a few years ago I tried a similar thing with flights to Spain and was told that if the outward leg was not used the inward leg was invalid.

Exactly the same experience as others - when I was booking flights last autumn, I was told that using only one leg of a return flight was not permitted. In the end, I did find a cheap one-way ticket, by going through an online agency. Singapore Air website wanted £2,500 for a one-way ticket. The agency did it for about £450.

ok thanks for the advise, still looking at all options.
have found that they will charge you more for single flight cebu to manchester than a return from manchester to cebu in most
will get there in the end hopefully

PeterB Please tell us who the agency were
I'll try to check, but I believe that it was an organisation which trades as 'Cheapflightsrus' (a google search will find their site), with an 0870 330 7444 phone number.
