Right you "techies" out there....
My son gave me the 2009 version of Kaspersky AV for Christmas.
I did google about it, and found that is one of the best AV on the market today, and not intrusive like AVG, Avast, Mac whatshisface and Norton.
What I would like to know is what you lot think of it.

They all have good and bad points, as long as you have one is the main thing, although it is nowhere near as important as folk make out. The firewall is the must have. All you need AV to do after that is scan downloads & emails.
Spyware Doctor removes any other crap.

Aways been up there, worth having Sir.
A firewall i would defo have as mr admin sir po writes, although most have one in their router nowdays which does most of the work.
The other big risk is clicking on a shady link which it seems just about every browser and os which everyday bods use is in greatest danger.
Its just as much about what you link to or download to your pc as the software you use.
One question Dom sir how long do you get updates for?

Sir Admin is correct, as long as you have some degree of virus protection, thats all that matters. I've used a few and theres very little between them. I'm using Eset AV, but when the free trial runs out, I'll switch back to Avast.I like Eset, its the lightest of the lot on system resources, shame about the £29 a year price tag.

Barclays are doing an offer for online banking customers... 1 years free subscription :xxgrinning--00xx3:... so looking at the Kaspersky site, I'd say a year. I'm going to give it a whirl anyway.

I currently use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and have had no problems with it at all, works great and doesn't seem to slow down my pc as much as say Norton or McAfee would.
I'd say your son made a great choice with Kaspersky...

The home user versions of Norton are a bit of a pain in the a:action-smiley-081:se, but the Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition is very unobtrusive and much better than Kaspersky in my opinion.
