ANyone who had an experienced before?
I need a guide how to lay a turf in a basic cheap way.
Our garden is full of weeds and we started digging them. Not sure what is next, if we need to kill the left over weeds?
Thanks in advance.

I have got the same problem here..
Ive decided to wait till the summer when the grass and weeds are really dry and then im going to incinerate them all with the help of about ten gallons of petrol...This kills all the old roots completely..
In the UK however Id just get a gallon of "roundup" and spray the lot.
Wait a week or so and then dig it all over and flatten out with a rake.
get a few bags of compost and rake in then throw down some grass seed. (not in a heap)
In about 6 weeks your garden will look like Wimbledon center court..Trust me.

To be certain that you won't have a weed problem with the lawn in the future, it is best to treat the whole area well with roundup and then treat it again after 2 weeks. Then as Fred says, after a week or so dig it over, rake it and flatten it down.
After that it's up to you whether you buy lawn turf, lay it and water it in, or whether you use grass seed which in the UK takes a lot longer to turn into a nice lawn.
Iain.

Important to get the ground level, if you use turf, don't buy meadow turf it is full of weeds, go for a good quality turf it will give you a nice lawn

thanks sconnie.
I forgot to ask if do we need to completely clean the soil like remove the dead weeds, roots, rocks? before laying turf.

Hi LadyJ, excellent advise given already. After the first teatment, you may need to allow any re-growth to be re-treated. When everything is completely dead you really should remove all the dead grass, roots, rocks and any other organic matter.
I'm going to do the same very soon also. As Sconnie said, i must not get lazy and should level the ground first though

Goes without saying but make sure yu keep the camera smasher and any preggers mates away from the area treated with roundup just in case as it says on wikipedia some reports say its totally safe other reports say a slight risk.Always best to err on the side of caution.
From watching my granddad who was a groundsman, reseed the turf in a newbulid house he moved into. Its worth doing what the others say raking the ground and digging over as many lawns are an afterthought by the developer. very important if you have young uns who will want to play on the grass getting rid of any rocks or buliding waste:NoNo:.
Also you never know what you might find my Granddad and I found a 1930's toy car which i played with as really well made and then found out once one of the wheels broken it was worth a small fortune (well to a kid anyway):doh
Also if you do it say starting tomorrow dont forget for the next month or two we have frosts in the UK and if we get a bad one it might kill all your seeds. But at least it will have the whole of spring and summer to get settled in:xxgrinning--00xx3:
