My fiance has been looking for hotels for our wedding reception but has suggested he just get brochures until i get there, and choose, before booking,Is this wise as part of the documents required is provisional booking of wedding reception.We already have provisional letter from registrar for the wedding

Hi Pat,as far as I know you have to have your reception booking slip (or confirmation for the wedding reception ,correct me if am wrong guys those who applied for fiancee visa before ) included to your fiancee visa documents and that helps a lot.Good luck for the wedding :)

Some members were granted Fiance Visas without Provisional Bookings. I know two personal friends who didn't submit provisional bookings.

hello, i was a fiancee holder last year i didnt have a provisional bookings. i don't remember that its required. the impt thing lang are the payslips ,bank statement, tenant agreement if he is renting, CNI, and the rest are your docs and the chatlogs,pics ,etc..

For our application, which was approved, we just had a provisional wedding reception booked. I couldn't get anything from a registrar, since my fiance would have to be in the UK 8 days before we can book anyhow. The ECO will know this is a law/rule.

In all honesty, I just booked a small venue (£150 deposit) , which we will now upgrade from when Shei is here. At the moment it is difficult to arrange anything with registrars until my fiance is here. The ECO knows this is Law in the UK - so my opinion (in which I might be wrong) is that a provisional booking with a registrar is not so useful based on these facts.

However, some sign that you intend to get married is useful. Receipts for Wedding rings, reception bookings etc are probably more useful than registrar bookings.

Yes its true, we did not need any wedding-related document support for our Fiancee visa (except refering to our plans/ date in the letter of support), and we did not need an interview either.

It seems risky to book the reception if you cannot book the ceremony (which you can't by law until both of you are in UK), and if you don't know that the visa will be granted when you expect, if at all. We waited 16 weeks and others waited just 7 weeks, so fixing a wedding date is difficult until you get the visa.

Also I heard that some people who submitted catering bookings etc with their applications got into difficulties with the Embassy because of this (in one case getting their application rejected when the Embassy could not get in touch with the supplier).

Guys & Girls...

The British Embassy are not naive.
Just because someone has booked a reception, paid a deposit for a ring etc
etc does NOT mean that there will be an actual wedding.

... to me, it's a bit like calling up and reserving a table at a restaurant, there's
no guarantee that you'll turn up & use it.

The Embassy also know that due to the current laws in the UK, no "real"
arrangements can be made ...... so they are totally reliant on your submitted
documentation ...... pay slips, housing etc etc ... so make this as perfect as
possible.

.... saying that, when the future Mrs Bluebird went & submitted at VFS, she
did call me & say.. "They are asking when are we getting married"... I was
tempted to reply, "How long is a piece of string" ..... but told her to say "As
soon as practically possible after arriving in the UK".

But, hell, what do I know ..... I'm still waiting

Bluebird Jones (shocking game last night BTW), I would agree with what you say. The Embassy know no legal arrangements can really be made until the fiance is in the UK at least 8 days. However, it will not do any harm to include things like Wedding Ring receipts. How they are perceived by the ECO's, we will not know.

Some people have been rejected for the ECO not being convinced that a wedding will take place - this usually is coupled with another more valid reason. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that people stop sending proof of future wedding arrangements, I would still encourage that. However, provisional bookings with registrars are, in my opinion, worthless based on UK laws that ECOs have full knowledge of.

Not really necessary, I was on a fiancee visa too when I first came here in 2006:rolleyes: we never had it.

We didn't have any arrangements either, the only plan we had was that we'd probably get married in May (in the end we got married in June...).

If you had to get married within a month I could understand the ECO insisting that you had some sort of idea, but you have up to 6 months to arrange a wedding which is plenty long enough. I'd also argue that a couple ought to plan a wedding together, and you can't do that until you are both in the country in which you plan to get married.

I think you have to look at the whole fiance visa application as a package. Some areas will be strong; some areas relatively weaker.

The purpose of the visa is for your fiance to enter the country in order for you to get married so it seems logical that the application (covering letter at least) will make mention of your plans. Most couples would like to make the arrangements together so exact details may not be finalised until they are in the country. And as mentioned before it is difficult to get provisional bookings from registrars.

Daisy got her visa with no provisional booking or reception arrangements being made. Our plans, as far as they were thought out, were outlined in the covering letter.

It was only after submitting the application that I contacted the registrar and did in fact manage to get a provisional booking. Had Daisy been called for an interview that booking would have been available to support our written statements.
