I have been looking around the forum and I am slightly confused. My wife will be applying for her visa to come to the UK in May. She wants to change her passport to have her married name on it. Is it wish to do this? What requirements are there to do this and what time frame is needed?

For what I have gathered so far but I'm not sure if I am correct on this.

1. She can't change her surname without CFO cert.
2. She has used an agency to change her passport and is this right thing to do?
3. Does she need the CFO after or before visa?
4. Does the embassy require name change on her passport?

I think I have included everything I would like to know.

Thanks for all the help I have received here.

1. Correct, you would need the CFO certified copy.
2. Not really, its cheaper (and probably a lot more hassle) to do it yourself.
3. CFO Certified Copy required with the application if marriage in Philippines and applying for a Spouse Visa.
4. No, she can change it later.

Hi again.

Does my wife need to go to CFO office twice to do the counseling, then do the visa and then go back and get the stamp + sticker.

This visa is confusing work :)

Hi Jonny,

Your wife will need to attend the counseling which is half day maximum and by the time her visa will be approve then she will need to go back to the CFO office for the stamp/sticker.

Yes visa is really confusing at first but after you apply for it then it will all be worth it.

Last year I changed my old green passport into married name even it's not yet expired and the DFA office in Cagayan de Oro asked me about the CFO certificate so what I did was I went to Cebu and had the seminar there for half day then went back straight to the DFA Office in Cagayan de Oro the next day morning.

She will need to attend the seminar first and then get the CFO certificate before she can change her passport into married name and then when you apply for her visa and her visa will be approve then that's the time she will need to go back either Manila or Cebu for the stamp/sticker.

About using the agency for changing the passport I'm not really sure because I think they will need the personal appearance of the applicant.

hmm... i renewed my passport early this year to reflect my married name. i used agency of our company to lessen the hassle. :-) they didn't ask for any CFO certificate but they asked for a copy of my marriage certificate (original NSO copy). :-)

i have now the brown passport with me... :-)

i have a question surrounding this if we get married in the phils does my fiancee have to change her old name in her passport before we apply for settlement or can she apply on her single name :doh we have already applied 3 times for visitors visa and she has been denied :furious3: she even done the cfo before :doh then they said she not need to do it for visitors visa after she sat it and i sat outside drinking coke and cooking in the sun :furious3:*ankers she was told by the consul on her last visit to the british embassy
that he will grant her this time as long as we follow his intruction and we get married in phils so i waiting to get my certicate of no impediment then fly in on 23 may straight to embaasy to exchange the cert on to cagayan wait the 10 days get married then we are not sure what to do we are obviously tryin to do it the quickest way because if we have to wait for marriage cert and then change her passport then apply and also do the cfo again because that is in her single name it going to take a fair few weeks i would like her to gety in the uk before it freezing cold again :icon_lol::CompBuster:

As long as her passport has 6 mos left before it expires, that's ok, she can apply on her old name.
