Hi! I'm new to this so bear with me. I've been living in the Philippines for three and a half years now. Makati, Alabang, Paranaque and now Batangas. I'm 47, widowed, no children, 3 dogs (mini-schnauzers). I'm an American lady who is looking for a Filippino man to marry. Not an easy task here in the province. Most men here are afraid to talk to me much past "Hello". The ones I work around are either much too young or they work in the fabrication shop and feel they are beneath me in status. I am the only expat in a company of nearly 2,000 - mostly men. It's not appropriate for me to start a relationship here on my own because of the culture. Anyone have any ideas? Know anyone here to introduce me to?

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. However, I don't drink and am far too busy to go to bars. Actually, here in Batangas there aren't many places to go out and meet people. Most hang out at SM Mall on the weekends. There's not even a decent coffee shop to go to here. Kind of off the beaten path. Nothing like Makati or Alabang. So I'm kind of stuck with someone introducing me to someone they know.
I'm not a prude, just a busy woman. For so long now my work has been my life. Now I'm looking for someone to share life with. They don't have to be rich, just employed with a good work ethic. They also need to understand that I'm not one of those rich expats. A common misconception here is that if you're foreign then you must be rich. That's just not the case with most of us. I used to make a good wage in Makati but I also had a LOT of stress to go along with it. Now I'm working for a LOT less. I don't even have a car now but I'm happier now. Just looking for someone to share life with; travel a bit, have dinner and maybe marriage. Any ideas?:ARsurrender:

Hello Ibechner and welcome to the forum :-)
You need to 'de-busy' so you can socialise more and interact with whatever activities the community there has to offer. It could be bday parties, open house for "whatever they're selling". You could make a small party and invite neighbours.
The more they see you, the more they'll get used to you.

Welcome to the forum Ibechner:Hellooo:,
You're right it is bec of the difference in culture. If you're in the Phils and looking for a lifetime partner and if you go out and stay in the bar/lounges or hotel lobby people might have different views about seeing a woman sitting all alone and having some wine but,
if you're in some countries like USA OR UK then going to the bar is one way of meeting friends and you don't have negative connotations.
It has a great difference. So finding someone for a lifetime partner in the Phils is quite hard unless you will be introduced by your friends to someone they know. Being a member of this forum might be of great help.
Goodluck....:)
