I am told by my wife that Filipinas are the most beautiful, caring and sweetest people in the world and that the Philippines is the loveliest country in the world. Certainly she is the most beautiful, caring and sweetest woman in the world for me, but is it true that all Filipinas are as she says?

Also, she tells me that I just HAVE to live in the Philippines or at least visit. Please tell me why. She obviously is biassed, but I would like to know what others have to say about Philippines. Interested also to know why Filipinos come to UK if Philippines is the best.

The loveliest country in the world?Go to the maldives,beaches that wipe boracay off the face of the map in terms of white sand,they really are unspoilt paradise,visit nepal for peaks that truly are incredible and dwarf Mt Apo,Philippines is a nice country,unfortunately its never going to get a massive share of the tourist market as Thailand has,simply because of the politics and problems the country has,like I said,if your outside the box looking in you get the whole picture,a total view,most pinays/pinoys are blinkered,they have tunnel vision,just stating facts,its very scenic,thats true,but its far from the best,visit,check the place out.

you are aware its a 3rd world country and you maybe shocked when you get there with the poorness of some?

but its very cheap there and as long as your careful,i dont think theres any real risk!

you will find the filipinos are the nicest people and have great smiles.

Bornatbirth,poverty never shocks me,I lived in India for a year,went to Delhi,Calcutta etc,I never stick to tourist locations,I have been to genuine slums,I am just being realistic in my apparisal of pinas :icon_lol:I have been to the Philippines 50 or 60 times?Well off the beaten track,been to sulu and jolo which most people dont go to so I am aware of the dangers :icon_lol:Your right,its very cheap,but so is sierra leone and Mali :icon_lol:

The best way to find out what a country is really like is go live with an average family in a normal neighbourhood for a few months then see if cracks appear,learn a little of the language,become immersed,thats the only way to discover the reality,your wife bound to be bias,she is a pinay :icon_lol:

Referring to someone or something as BEST means the world to you. May it be a place, a person or a thing. If this person a pinay in particular you consider as the BEST in the world same as the Philippines if it's the BEST place for someone to spend the rest of their lives then it means the ultimate, most advantageous, excellent kind, desirable etc. In my opinion, it depends on the person's acceptance and/or tolerance on that particular subject. If she ( the filipina wife) meets his criterias or standards of what a wife should be like then she is the BEST for that person. Philippines is a beautiful country no doubt about it. Poverty, squatters, etc all the negative aspects can also be found in other countries. If a filipino has a good life in the Philippines then no matter what he/she considers the Philippines as the BEST.

Your question is why some of the filipinos come to the UK when Philippines is such a beautiful country?

Answer:
1) It might be because husband prefers to live in the UK rather than the Phils.
or
2) She considers living in the UK because her life here is much better than in the Phils.

3) Filipinos come to the UK to work because of higher exchange rate of pounds sterling to Phil. peso.

Well, I am biased as my wife is a Filipina.
She is the nicest person I have ever met and she is caring and beautiful inside and out.
The Philippines is a lovely country and I think you should visit there, if only to see the place where your wife comes from and to get an insight into the bigger picture.
There are problems there, but you could say the same of any country.
It is unique and very welcoming.
Keep your eyes open and don't flash the bling and you will have an unforgetable visit.
Lots of us keep on going back, and we can't all be wrong.....

I beleive the question was what is Phil like, not lots of other countries!
You should defiantely go there and be realistic about what you`ll find.
Some people on here will have you beleive that its one big white beach and blue sky, its not.
Also its not the dirtiest place you`ll visit, but some of it is.
No ones being unkind, just telling it how it is.
It has lots of lovely beaches away from the beaten track.
On the beaten track it has lots of squalor, beggars,smelly and dirty places.
I would defiantely recommend going there to experience it for yourself.
I went there to find a fantastic wife, and thats what i did!
If I wanted sun theres lots of places closer to home that i`d visit.

whatever the pros and cons mentioned earlier, still pinoys will always say "there's no place like home" coz we grew up in a place where family and friends play a very important role in our life. life in the philippines may be simple but still you find time to be happy at no cost. compared to other places, you may have all the luxuries in life but who do you share it with? a couple of dogs or cats? worst case you end up in a care home coz no one's there for you or they are too busy working to attend to your needs. some say we do not have the finest tourist destinations in the world:Erm:, but atleast we are proud to offer tourists a better alternative. it really depends on the person's individuality. too bad others doesn't seem to appreciate what beyond the eyes can see.

I met 2 filipinas ages 60's in Holland. They said before, they will never comeback to Pinas especially from their province where they have experienced hard life and poverty. Holland is already their home!!! In Holland they have both big house with swimming pool. But suddenly they told me they want to retire in Pinas. They asked me both to find a place for them and offered them 1 property to each of them. I have not yet been to Pinas as I am not much of a traveller but intend to go at some stage. I would like to hear the reasons why I should go. Tawi2 I am amazed that you have been to Pinas 50 to 60 times. You are obviously a specialist on the land. I am interested to know why you have been there so many times if you prefer other countries. I also wonder how on earth you manage to go to so many countries. You must travel at least 2 to 3 times every year. Do you work with Philippine Airlines (lol)?

I would also like to know why Filipinas fall in love with British guys rather than Filipinos. I mean if you come to Britain because of love for British guys why dont you fall in love with Filipinos?

I last went 2 months ago John,I never went to Angeles though I know it hasnt changed one iota,its exactly the same,I have two old friends who manage bars there,Ermita?Well,it could never plummet the depths of depravity the way it did in 1990 :omg: I think Mayor Lim closed down most of the bars etc back in 1993?I flew into Manila stayed a night,then flew south,my tastes have changed a lot nowadays :ARsurrender: Your wife worked on a moshav?

I would prefer pinas as its my "home" but my hubby prefers to settle here in uk as it is his home too and his livelihood is here.
But he's been to pinas atleast 6 times for the last 2 years and he loved it there
and he is even considering retiring there, in tagaytay, when we both get old,
but thats long way to go as were both just in our 30"s now. We may have different plans in the future, we'll never know.
As for me, wherever my hubby is, there will i be - may it be here in uk, in the philipines or some place else.
After all, i'm always up for new things and i enjoy exploring and discovering new places and the best part of it is going through the adventure with the man i love :xxgrinning--00xx3::)

And I just remembered something,I flew to Zamboanga in march,I booked into a hotel,went down to the port area to see how much it had changed,a guy stepped out of an alleyway in broad daylight and demanded my money.........I had been in the city maybe 2 1/2 hours at the most :icon_lol:
Anyone who thinks pinas is a paradisical utopia needs to go spend a few months there,its a nice country for sure,but far removed from the garden of eden,a good yardstick measure is why does everyone want to get out,maybe thats a slight exaggeration,not everyone,but most,look at the upsurge in nursing degrees,why do you think all the kids I chatted to want to be nurses?They all said "To work abroad" if you have money in pinas your life is great,if your an average joe its not so good at all.:ARsurrender:

Sophie,one thing I always am is honest in an appraisal,I dont go to pinas for a 2-4 week sanitised holiday every year,I have seen the good and the bad,stayed in Marriott,Marco Polo,a friends incredible house in Forbes Park etc,also slept on the beach,in a room just off fuente osmena with a full family on the floor without ventilation nor windows,I stayed in a badjao stilt house for a few months without running water nor electricity:icon_lol: Theres good and bad in every single country around the world,just because its prefixed with the word "Pinas/pinay" doesnt make it perfect :icon_lol:Remember,good AND bad,if Mr Chingford had just asked for good things to be said I could have given him plenty of words,likewise if he had asked for negatives :icon_lol:

To add on that Tawi, been victim of mobile snatch 4 times not include my daughter one, expensive one geesshhh, and hubby said "If youre in the UK, even you answer your phone in a crowd, no one will gonna snatch it to you" while in PI, if your expensive mobile ring in the crowd, you cant answer it as you need to be careful that snatchers around you, holy cow

Phone snatching is endemic in pinas,whenever I jump in a jeepney I never wear a watch,ring,nor necklace,I am always aware of whats happening around me,you know about the teams,3 or 4 guys,who target jeepneys,pull out a pistol or two and rob everyone often without the driver even being aware.I know an english guy,Harry,his wife was thrown on the ground when he didnt hand over his wallet straight away,I have known guys have had a blade against their neck at ATM machines,its not the worst place in the world,but its certainly not the best either,I actually like it,but I am not blind nor oblivious to its faults and problems :icon_lol:

Fair enough tawi2 :) Obviously you've been to the best and the worst of pinas and more or less have enjoyed the best and endured the worst of both worlds :)
I guess its always best to explore both so you can get a glimpse or maybe a picture of the country in its entirety............

Lol, this is exactly what i did to my husband (bf then) on his visits to the philippines :D
I never brought him to bad and risky places, i stayed away from those,
as i don't want to subject him to something i myself would never want to go through.
He did not even experience public transportation which is quite a challenge and risky in some parts of the philippines, particularly in the metro.
So he only got to experience and explore the safe side and the best of the philippines.
The only unpleasant experience he had there was the infamous manila heavy traffic
and those street kids tapping on your car windows begging/demanding for some change.
And oh by the way, we also had a running with an MMDA/crocodile :icon_lol: That was the most unforgetable for him.
It happened when I decided to let him drive one day, then unfortunately he almost swerved by mistake and here comes the crocodile MMDA's
waiting for us like hungry wolves pulling us over, and seeing a foreigner driving even made them drool some more, lol (means more cash for them).
My first instinct is to tell him to run, which he did.
I figured i will not let this crocodiles catch us and eat us alive and rip us off like hell.
And lucky for us the next stop is on green light so we were able to escape smoothly.
But we pulled over at the nearest petrol station and switched seats, as we don't want to be pulled over again by crocodiles on the next stop, lol.
Whew, that was really close, t'was really scary but funny at thesame time as we were able to get away :D:D:D:D
But my hubby will never forget that one fateful day :icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

whatever the pros and cons mentioned earlier, still pinoys will always say "there's no place like home" coz we grew up in a place where family and friends play a very important role in our life. life in the philippines may be simple but still you find time to be happy at no cost. compared to other places, you may have all the luxuries in life but who do you share it with? a couple of dogs or cats? worst case you end up in a care home coz no one's there for you or they are too busy working to attend to your needs. some say we do not have the finest tourist destinations in the world:Erm:, but atleast we are proud to offer tourists a better alternative. it really depends on the person's individuality. too bad others doesn't seem to appreciate what beyond the eyes can see.

Tourists visit a country to view the sights,experience the exotic,and learn about the culture so what exactly is the "Better" alternative that pinas offers seeing as how most tourists who go there(note I said most)are not incontinent elders fearful of going into a care home but are balikbayans and their families,backpackers,or single guys :Erm:

In my view, each country has beautiful aspects to it. Many of these apects remain unseen to both those that live there and particularly, those that only visit from time to time. Our impressions about a place are initially formed by what we have either heard or read. If we have the fortune to visit a place we then temper our initial impression by what we observe directly. Thus, I find so much to love about so many countries. Oman - most beautiful natural relief I have ever seen. Brazil - amazing attitude to life. Ukraine, Poland and Czech Republic - most beautiful European in my view that also take great pride in their appearance and family. Philippines - most beautiful smiles irrespective of circumstances. No single country per se has the best of everything to all men at all times. Its all terribly subjective.

Every country has good and beautiful women that make great wives - I do believe though that in the Philippines there are a greater proportion that will have the characteristics that Western men find admirable.

The Philippines is an amazing country with so much beauty to behold for the discerning traveller depending on how they relate to things they do not live with on a daily basis back in their ome country.

A thought: As the roles of wife and husband are inextricably interrelated, it is impossible to have a wife be perfect as such without a perfect husband to support, nurture and care for her. If you are not a perfect husband .... A rose seed falling on dry, rocky ground will fail to flourish.

To get back to the original question that was asked, I do think that Pinays are generally much nicer than other nationalities. I have travelled a fair bit and have never been captivated by any other woman before my wife.
When I look around the Philippines, I see so many nice ladies, in the sense of being friendly. I still think Filipinas are special, I am sure many others here do too.
