Hi my name is Michael, I come from West Sussex at the moment. I have my fiance in Davao, Mindanao. We have known each other for 2-1/2 years first meeting in Eyeball Chat on the internet in January 2007, since then we have been in almost constant touch and in due course I visited her in Davao last October for three weeks and we had such a wonderful time and truly felt we were made for each other. She is absolutely beautiful and very caring and loving. I am hoping to retire there by the end of the year and we will be getting married. So I will be using the forum to help me with various issues re. relocating to the Philippines and I hpe to make friends and get some good advice when needed.

I'm hoping to retire in Philippines like you, and although I love Davao I would rather settle in Cebu, I feel safer there..:Erm:

Are you planning to retire in Davao then?

Hi Nigel, When I was in Davao I must admit I was aware of very high security there but I must admit I felt very safe (where is anywhere safe in the world now though). Cebu it appears is in the Typhoon belt if I am correct and that worries me as I have seen alot of the problems there with Typhoons. It seems to me that Mt Apo protects Davao. I havent thought much yet about what part of Davao to live but my fiance assures me Davao is safe, and that their Mayor is very good. I wish you luck in your quest to retire in the Phils. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Hi Tawi2. Not quite sure of which area yet in Davao possibly in Davao del sur but will follow the advice of my fiance. I appreciate the high security I saw there when there in October, but the city mayor appears to have a tight rein on things and is very good. I would be worried about the weather in Cebu it being in Typhoon valley which Davao doesnt have.

welcome to the forum mick.. I am residing and working in davao city. Davao Sur is close. What town will you settle? I have been to all towns of davao sur as my works takes me there.. You are right that davao is safer compared to other cities, no typhoon ( though we have occasional long period of rain and other low areas are flooded during rain - i am just being honest!!) Glad to be of help, should you want ...

.... as the "man on the ground" ...

.. can you keep us informed on the status of the bridge between Davao &
Samal ? (LOL)
I would guess quarterly or semi-annual reports would suffice.

..... can already hear the cash register playing a happy tune, as I cash in
my real estate holdings on Samal (.. I should be so lucky !)
