Your as unusual as a diamond in an oyster :Erm: I have been going there every year since the dawn of time(or so it sometimes seems)and can count on the fingers of one foot the number of caucasian women I have seen with pinoy husbands, though I personally have dozens of friends married to pinay wives,I even know two lesbians with pinay girlfriends :icon_lol:

I think kerry is quite sensibly moving on.The average guy would not countenance a woman treating him shabbily, neither should the average woman.

LOL, so i guess being nosy have had some advantages huh? :D
Anyway, it does happen tawi2.....I just hope though that the female foreigners will be more careful and assertive in the pinoys they meet
and should be able to somehow spot those user looser types.....

True, but we all have our individual reasons for choosing the partner we wanna end up with...
Others are in the name of love while some for practical reasons.....
However sometimes things just happen, call it fate or destiny, that we end up with someone we never planned nor thought we would end up with....
And as much as i know there's a lot of dishonorable pinoys out there,
I also know a lot of pinoys in my circle who are truly honorable men and some of them are with filipinas while some are with foreigners.......

while for those smart and successful guys, it's an interesting quality of a woman they typically go for.....

It is because, a Pinoy man would like to control his woman. To be superior, to be the macho figure, the "man" (a typical pinoy attitude) etc etc...

And why do you think British guys marry Pinays not British women? Lol, because quite often British women "wear the trousers" in the relationship... (No offense meant to you Englishbird/Kerry).

Tawi2

Correct Jayzee, pinoys cant handle a strong minded woman, they want to assert and be in control, western guys?Lots marry pinays after a failed marriage to a western woman, not being nasty here, but I think statistics will bear this out, mostly the guys will be middle aged and have been in a relationship which didnt work out so they want a calmer, nicer woman,I couldnt handle a western woman, lived with two, that was enough,I met my sons mum by accident on the MTR going from Tsim sha tsui to central :icon_lol:serendipitous journey,Plus a bad point for me was I couldnt stand living with a woman who smokes nor drinks, nothing wrong with them, just not my cup of tea, most pinays dont smoke nor drink thankfully :Erm:

I'm a little  here ... 'englishbird'/'English Rose' ... NOT one and the same individual, as it turns out, but two DIFFERENT people. And yet, odd as it might seem, their respective stories reveal an uncanny similarity in so far as each of them appears to express a "love interest" involving 2 separate Filipinos. Hi Gem.

He works for Princess Cruises, I not going to say which ship, because you never know whos reading these threads and I don.t want to get him into trouble. He sneaks to my cabin when Im on the ship and that is a sackable offence if he was to get caught.

Where did you meet your husband?. Have you visited the Philippines much?. Im due to visit him in November and I have been quite worried about going there.:omg:

Ive not been on any of those ships. I have been on the Caribbean, the Sea Princess twice and I have just come back from Alaska on the Diamond. That was the first cruise I have done on my own!:D. Im hoping that he gets the Grand as his next ship, cheaper and less travelling for me, as Im only about 3 hours from Southampton. Alaska was great but a long way for a week. Saying that, i am going all the way to Manila for just a week:omg:. Do you still work for Princess?

Oh i did alaska on the Dawn and Sapphire and loved it! Its such an amazing place!!

Im still on the books for Princess, but we took a break to get married. Not sure if we will go back, need to wait until hubby gets his visa sorted and moves over here before we decide. Where is your boyf from in Philippines? My husband has worked for Princess for more than 5 years so theres a good chance he would know your boyf.

Its weird to hear you call him my boyfriend, because I have only seen him a few times in the last 2 years, I sort of think of him as a really good friend:cwm38:. We email all the time and he calls me when he can, more when hes at home. I don't know where it will lead. he has kids in the Philippines, so i dont think he would come here and I don't think I couls cope with living there. So its just fun for now and I get to travel to see him. Im a travel agent so I get soem good prices for the cruises.

Quite a popular name..I know 3 Edwins but they were all on the Grand/ Sapphire with me so wont be the same guy. Next time your talking to him ask if he knows Arnie Tugawin. He is from Manila. I know there are 100's of filipinos on Princess Ships but theres a good chance they know eachother both being bartenders! Is november going to be the next time you see eachother?

Yeah November, it seems such a long time to wait. He finishes his current contract in October. I can't afford to go back to Alaska again, so I will have to wait. I have been recommended some apartments to stay in, in the Makati area. He lives outside of Manila, so he will come and stay with me in the apartment. Once he finds out his next ship, i will then hopefully book to go and see him on the ship.:D

Yeh the airport is a bit of a nightmare!! There are sections in alphabetical order so just get Edwin to stand and a specific letter and wave frantically! Its really overwhelming when you first arrive. It will be so humid and there are literally 1000 of people at the pick up point!! But dont let that put you off cos once you see your man you will forget all about it!

I thought about maybe meeting him at the apartment, but I think i would be more scared getting a taxi on my own than trying to find him outside the airport.

How often do you get to see your hubby?. Is he allowed to come here for a visit?:)

Yeh just get him to meet you outside the airport.. much better!!

We see eachother often, its just very scattered! When we are on the ship we are together for 6 months and then we both go home for a couple of months but in those breaks i went to Phils for holiday. We just had 3 weeks together in Thailand and now we are waiting for the visa to be approved so who knows when we will see eachother again but SOON i hope! He would need to get a visit vissa to come here so its just been easier for me to go there! :cwm38:

Interesting to read this thread... I'm a British woman, happily married to a Filipino and we reside here in the UK together. We lived together in the Philippines for a couple of years previously, though. In total, we've been together three years and married for one. We're of similar age, have lots of values in common and work together as a great team, I think.

I think it would be rather narrow-minded to stereotype Filipino men, just as it would British men - they are as diverse as each other! I know shy, timid Brits and aggressive, domineering types and everything else in between. Similarly, some Pinoys are confident and like to dominate, whilst others are rather retiring. I think, broadly speaking, it's fair to say that Filipinos (and Filipinas) have more old-fashioned principles than us Brits though - which I really admire. At the same time, I love living in modern, forward-thinking and technologically-advanced UK (most of the time).

In addition, I certainly wouldn't say my husband dislikes my being able to assert myself; he's calmer but quietly much more stubborn and can certainly intelligently stand his ground. And we both work to pay the bills so we both make important decisions together. I'm not saying it's perfect; I missed home when living out there and he misses home when here. I think that's often the case for couples when one is from a different country/ culture... However, we're both in a healthy, happy and loving relationship... therefore no regrets. And he certainly didn't marry me for a green card; he'd love it if I suddenly decided I wanted to live in the Philippines. The bags would be packed before I could utter "Sunshine, simple living and white, sandy beaches"!

Finally, I've been to Manila on a few occasions and found it to be absolutely fine. Much safer than parts of London and the although the taxi drivers can be a bit sly, I generally found the people to be as friendly as in the south.

So, good luck with your adventures in love. I'd love to hear how you get on.

I met my husband while over in the Phil's scuba diving, a few years ago. We never looked back.

The flight is well worth it. The Philippines is a fantastic country in which to holiday. Check out the shopping malls in Manila, too - amazing (and daunting!) I hope you get chance to sample small island life, too, while you're there; it's quite special and a step way back in time. Lovely for some chill time.

Ok, so you worked on boats...?:Erm:

How about real seagoing ships...???

The amount of people who think boats are ships
This drives lots of people who spend years on the oggin crazy.
I have seen skippers shout at people for saying this.
Mindyou, some skippers can get a little tetchy at times.

Hello, can another English girl join in?
It's funny, you don't see many English girls with Pinoy BF's, and then here we all are popping up all over the place, all with good stories to tell too.

Ok Louella and Iain, as you asked so nicely :D, this is my story...

Met my BF on a boat (:D), not a ship about 6 years ago, we stayed friends for ages, but last year we both realised we had strong feelings for each other. There are some hurdles for us to climb before we can relax, but I think it all adds to the fun of the relationship, it wouldn't be interesting if it was perfect.

At the moment he is in the Phils and I'm here in the UK, but I'm going to see him this September and October. Hopefully we will get a visa sorted out soon enough, although I quite fancy living in the Phils myself if we cant.

Aaah, lovely. The world is changing and there are a few of us on here, now. And I'm sure lots more out and about in the UK.

Hi Jem, Sassy & Sun Shine! Not sure if there's anything I can be of assistance with, but if you do have any questions I might be able to answer, feel free to do so. My husband and I lived out in the Phil's, got married and now live and work here.

Most people on this forum seem great, but there are a few opinions dotted around which appear to lack reasoning where Filipino (or Asian) men are concerned - ignore them! Such stereotyping about a whole nation or even a whole continent is, of course, ludicrous.

Anyway, got to go, I'm cooking rice and roast chicken for breakfast... Some things don't change!

Bye for now,

Lou :)

Hi Lou, i liked your words of wisdom!

I think its also true about stereotyping and im sure anyone could say all those things about British men or men of any nationality.

Did you enjoy living in the Phils?? Im hoping that when Arnie gets his visa we can start planning to have a family and cant imagine being away from my mum and friends when i have a baby.

Did you husband find it easy to find work?

Jem :):):)

Hi ladies.

Jem, hmmm, hard one to answer... It is fantastic place for me for a holiday, but the most difficult thing for me was not working. There's only so much swimming, diving, reading & sitting in hammocks I can do! I got bored after a while, is the truth. Also, my husband is from a small but beautiful island where electricity is hit and (very) miss and there are few amenities. Which has its pros, too, of course. On the other hand, I think it would be a lovely place to raise kids (my husband is shocked by the behaviour of some teenagers here - most are respectful of their elders in the Philippines), but I think I would miss my family and generally the standard of education here is much higher. A vague long term plan for us is to have kids here and move out to the Philippines when they are ready for high school and get them into a decent private school. My husband still has a small business and we have a place to live out there. We certainly haven't cut ties and plan to invest over there, little by little.

My husband found it very easy to get work here. He walked into an agency just one week after arriving (shy and a little nervous, no doubt - culture shock and all that!) and started work the following day. He's now a permanent member of staff at his workplace, on a perfectly adequate wage. There are still quite a few jobs around. I think the trick is not to be too fussy, initially.

Sun Shine (lovely name and if I ever have a daughter.....!), Yes, this site is brilliant for visa advice, as is Pete's own website, which we also read inside out. The whole process was fairly easy, once I'd moved back here, got a place to live and secured a permanent job.

Matt7, I reckon British women and Filipino men do face as much prejudice (even on FilipinoUK, at times!) and that was an issue for me a few years back, but that's life. I'm prone to a little prejudice myself sometimes. Easy to judge when you don't know people, eh?!

Lou

Hi Lou Lou,

You have an inspiring story. After reading your post, you fill me with so much confidence in going through the same processes in my life.
You come across as a very happy person and indeed family, and I wish you the very best for your future, wherever that may be.
Thank you for sharing,
Sun. :)
