Hi All, just some advice and tips wanted please. My plans are coming to fruition now and I plan to go back to Davao in November and marry my fiance shortly after arriving there, I understand that I need to visit the Phils Embassy in London but until then can anyone advise me about the visa side of things in going back with a one way ticket (somewhat cheaper this time of year than a return which would be required for a tourist visa) with intentions of marrying? I will have relevant docs ie Divorce Certificate and CNI I also have a copy of CENOMAR from my fiance and copy of her birth certificate. What i worry about is getting to Manila and being sent back to UK because I dont have a return ticket.
Also can anyone advise me on banking? I intend to open an account with PNBE so that my private pension can be paid in here in London and that I can use in Davao thru PNB there, is there a charge made on each monthly input of my pension before I can obtain it. As I said I will be visiting both above establishments before I leave the UK but any advise or help would be most appreciated. Thank you all in advance. PS. I intend to spend my married life and retirement in Davao and have no intentions of bringing my new wife back to the UK except for holidays.)

I have never been asked to show a return ticket in Manila or Cebu.

You need to check with your pension company to see if they are willing to pay direct into a non-UK bank account and if there is any charge (UK Banks tend to charge a fair amount for international transfers). Your better bet may be to maintain a UK bank account to have your pension paid into which is cheap to withdraw from internationally (eg Nationwide Cashcard) or to transfer the money from that account online (eg using PNB ) which will work out at maybe £5 per transfer. The only issue is whether the UK bank will send your bank cards abroad or if you need an address to use in the UK.

I think you should check with PNB in London if you can actually open a bank account with them. I had the manager of PNB visit my family a few weeks ago and I think he mentioned this is not possible. I may be wrong, but you can always give them a call and ask. If all is okay, you may be able to open an account whilst in the UK so you're all set before you land in the Philippines. :-)
