hahaha... yes our ruby goes to the grooming parlour every 6 weeks! as for the shampoo she uses malaseb only coz she has sensitive skin:icon_lol::icon_lol: as for the food she eats science plan proven, and treats, so she is roughly on 12-13£ a week... and insurance is about 25/month, i say that is too much as we have never claimed but my hubby said not to cancel as the moment we do something might happen:cwm34:

how old is your dog ?

might not be a good idea to cancel as it can be difficult to get insurances once your dog gets to a certain age, and thats probably when it will need medical care the most..

one of my sisters dogs had seen a specialist vet, and had tests done that cost £3000+ , she must have claimed well over £6000 in the last few years on insurance on just 1 dog.

my dog is alot better looking than that dog, face is thinner. but you can see, she looks nothing like a shar-pei. and she's twice the size and not 1 wrinkle on her :doh

When I was in Holland, My friend Cynthia has another friend who need someone to babysit her dog for a day. I volunteered and stayed in her house and learned that this filipina treat her dog as her baby.
She said If the dog needs to pee, I must say it in dutch and taught me some dutch language. Must bring her dog outside her garden too.
The time comes and dog need to go outside for a pee but noticed her just standing beside the swimming pool. I forgot the dutch language and I felt guilty when my friend arrived. She said, Penny, I knew my baby didn't pee. I can feel it by touching her lower stomach:omg:

:bigcry: Yes I feel guilty because I forgot pee in dutch. I talked with your baby in filipino and english and just staring at me. :D

We would love to have a pet someday, think when our son is a bit older, I guess.
But yeah it is very expensive having pets! Might consider a cat as it's low maintenance (no need to wash them!!) or a bunny hehe, that can be fed with moldy veggies/fuits lol... Dog? nah... Maybe in the PI but not here...

We have pet dogs at home. A rottweiler named Sam and doberman named Jack. Lately we received a beagle as a gift from an uncle. He was named porkchop but when he arrived home he was baptised as Simon. As in Simon Cowell hehe. It is expensive to be maintaining these breed of dogs. They require regular care. They have toothpaste, toothbrush, earbuds, etc etc. When the rottweiler got sick she stayed for 2 wks at the vet clinic and had to visit her everyday. They say that children at an early age should have a pet so they will grow up to be loving and caring individuals.

I have had the good fortune of owning dogs in the past, mainly Labrador Retrievers.
And although, sometime, I do miss the companionship, I would not have another pet again.

It is not because of the vast amounts of money involved in keeping pets, it is because of not having to go through the pain, upset and sadness of when the time comes for them to be put to sleep because of terminal sickness, or pass away of old age or accidents.
Some of my kids even now, years after the last dog sadly died, do give me, from time to time, framed prints of chocolate labradors as birthday presents, especially if they do resemble my favourite one.:bigcry:
My "Enya" was one in a billion, I would never be able to get another like her, and trying to do that, in my mind, would insult her memory.

True.........a pet's life span is shorter though, and the more attached you get the harder it is to let go.....:bigcry::bigcry:
I guess loosing a pet is just as painful as loosing a loved one in a way, specially a dog pet, and the fact that they don't last as long as we want, is a sad thing.....

Nice one Mr Joe!:xxgrinning--00xx3:....
I felt sad when our rottweiler was gone. It was because she was with the family for many years. There were many happy memories of her. We brought her to a dog show one time:D. She was so happy everytime she is brought out in the open field to play. Everytime we go for a walk in the village and happen to meet a dog of her breed we ( the owners) introduce our pet dogs to one another:D. I remember a time when she was left alone at home and when we arrived and looked for her in every corner of the house and in the garden can't find her and she didn't answer at all. I finally found her under the shrubs and head flat on the ground but eyes looking at me as if she's sulking bec she was left behind. I said "i'm sorry" then i called her and had put the dog food and added fresh water on the food trays but she just snobs me:NoNo::doh:doh. So what i did was to bring the food trays infront of her:). We really missed her a lot when she was gone, something was missing at home:bigcry:. I even cried:bigcry:.Sometimes i felt not to own one again for when it will be gone it's hard to cope up with the changes in the family. We will always remember the happy days when they're still with us.

Cheers:)

I understand what your trying to say, after I saw you both in a chair and you cuddle her like a baby and she keep kissing you, and when I am trying to carry her, she moan like "grrrrrrrrrr" like a baby that some one took out from her mother will cry, awww

that was funny:icon_lol::icon_lol: my husband couldnt stop laughing

I felt sad when our rottweiler was gone. It was because she was with the family for many years. There were many happy memories of her.

i have memories of me and my dog chasing rabbits when she was young, funny how she never caught one :D, maybe i was just not quick enough when she got so close, or was it because i'm a veggy :icon_lol: she was happy in them days , like the time i was taking her for a walk and turned a corner, and a cat flew thru the air, she had managed to get it, don't think she hurt it, but the cat had scratched her nose, and her nose was bleeding a little bit, but she had a big smile on her face :icon_lol:

i give my dog cod liver oil capsule and glucosamine tablet a day.

if you've got a morrisons near you, they have on offer pedigree joint care + snacks, 3 for the price of 2, will cost you £8, but saves you £4 and will help you dog for 3 wks if its old :D

Hi Joe, i know the maintenance here in the UK is not that expensive compared to that in the Phils. Yes vitamins , cod liver oil are given as well. I am contemplating if i will get one again.
Yeah so many happy memories:). She was fond of playing the freesbie and chasing cats. Love to our pet dogs were established once they were brought to us either by gift or bought from the pet shops.

sorry to hear about your loss vbkelly,I understand how you feel. we also lost our lovely dogf last September and have her cremated but still up to now we can't help but cry especially when we see her toys though I know we just did the right thing in putting her to sleep because we know that's the best for her rather than prolonging her agony.:bigcry::bigcry:

Puppy Left Traumatised After Scissors Attack

An eight-week-old puppy was left in "unspeakable agony" after his ears and tail were cut off with scissors, a rescue worker has said.

More here http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Puppy-Attack-Buckleys-Ears-And-Tail-Cut-Off-With-Scissors-in-Animal-Cruelty-Attack-In-Australia/Article/200907315339079?lpos=World_News_Third_Home_Page_Feature_Teaser_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15339079_Puppy_Attack%3A_Buckleys_Ears_And_Tail_Cut_Off_With_Scissors_in_Animal_Cruelty_Attack_In_Australia

Im saddened after reading this news:cwm3:, I wish I can do the same to the resposible evil who did it to the puppy, I will cut his/her ears and private part!:cwm23:

sorry to hear your dogs have died, its always a sad day when you lose a dog as they become part of the family.

DOM, old saying ""Don't be sad because it's over, be happy because it happened", and remember the good times, not the bad ones..

one thing is certain, we will all die one day, but everyday above ground is a good day :D

:xxgrinning--00xx3:

i have grown up with family dogs and its a sad day when pass away! our last dog was a great dane, she was so soft and cuddly, sadly they only live upto 10 years but ours was still 11 but she got so slow and old in her last few years, makes me wanna :bigcry:

i always look fondly back at all of them :D
