Oh Dear!

I think my computer have a virus, im not really sure as this is the first time that is happened to me :bigcry::bigcry::bigcry::bigcry::bigcry:

But when i turned it on this afternoon, it says:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

<Windows root>\system32\ha.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I dont know what will i do.. please :Help1::Help1::Help1::Help1:

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.

Use
Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot,ini
DEL C:\boot.ini
to delete the bad one
BootCfg /Rebuild

to search for Windows installations and make a new one

That should work, unless the disk is screwed up and hal.dll really is missing.

But i think i will just need to get it to a proper technician as i dont have a XP CD. I tried to insert the recovery disk, but it is still the same.:bigcry::bigcry:

When i found out that my computer have virus, i run to hubby and told him " My computer have a swine flu" :D:D:D

Is AVG good? I am using Mcafee- Anti virus, is this any good?:Erm::Erm:

I use mcafee and it is quite good, as long as you let it do the automatic updates when you are online. Same goes for any virus really.

Even if you have good antivirus protection occasionally something can get through.

Then try it again directly:

What Mr admin po boss lord of all internet says from what you describe as the best route. But as Iain says if the HDD has really gone awry then it may not help this time.

Can you remember the last time you used the pc? When you were using did the disk drive make any funny noises or starting to get noiser did you have to switch off and not shut down as normal?

Thanks for the info on starting my laptop again, but unfortunatly I can't even get my start menu up so that I can "push run then type in CMD?"

I think I just need to get it to PC World or technician to remedy the fault :bigcry:

i used my laptop yesterday morning and ive downloaded some applications so i can get free games for PSP :D:doh And while im downloading the application it did make a strange noise.. When i switched it off, it shut down normally, then it wouldnt start again :NoNo::NoNo:

Just borrow a bootable XP disk off someone, and run the FIX

Or make a bootable floppy on another system
