Shops etc had to have bilingual signs. Arabic, and the English translation below.
The Khaleej Times reported that a butcher of Pakistani origin had been sent to prison for 30 days for displaying an offencive sign, and not gaining prior approval for his sign from the municipality.
The sign read:
"CHILD MEAT FOR SALE" when of course it should have read:
"CHILLED MEAT FOR SALE"
