View Full Version : Question about money

I know for support purposes, UK residents need to show over £2000.00 savings and not to have gone in the red.

Could an ISA or similar investments be classed like this or should that be in cash, ready to withdraw?

You should appear solvent on your current account, not going into your overdraft or anything, making it like you've got a few quid there, and then, if you got an ISA, it's proof that you got some dosh, so in short

make sure current account doesn't go into red

have your money either in isa or current

explain any apparent discrepancy in covering letter. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

ISA's etc are classed as investments, you really need 'loose change' of a few grand in your account. You still tell them about everything you have though.

Basically you should include anything that can be turned into ready cash
in a reasonable amount of time.

eg shares, ISA, endowment policy, unit trusts

It also shows the ECO that you are financially "astute", and have money
put aside for emergencies, change of circumstances etc, and you will
not have to rely on the public purse.

Thanks everyone.. As well as saving up after I get back from the Philippines. I was planning on investing a little into an ISA. Not just for the home office to have a gander over, but for the future anyway:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Just to get back to the money thing!...that was the thread wasnt it?

If you have £1000 spare then it makes sense NOT to have it in a current account as it doesnt pay that much interest but to transfer it to an ISA where its actuallly tax free. so surely a person is more financially astute doing that?

so does it matter then that ur current account is nearly in the red when u have 1000 or more in an ISA?
