The Human Development Index (HDI) is an index used to rank countries by level of "human development", which usually also implies whether a country is developed, developing, or underdeveloped.
The HDI combines three dimensions:

Life expectancy at birth, as an index of population health and longevity
Knowledge and education, as measured by the adult literacy rate (with two-thirds weighting) and the combined primary, secondary, and tertiary gross enrollment ratio (with one-third weighting).
Standard of living, as measured by the natural logarithm of gross domestic product per capita at purchasing power parity.

The 2009 report was released on October 5, 2009, and covers the period up to 2007. It was titled "Overcoming barriers: Human mobility and development". The top countries by HDI were grouped in a new category called "Very High Human Development". The report refers to these countries as "developed countries".[1] They are:

Well, the UK, I am shocked it's so low to be honest.

As for the Philippines, it's no shock that it's a developing/underdeveloped country! Otherwise Known As = Third World!

Yes i was shocked as well UK in #21:doh. Phils belongs to the 3rd world country thus under the category of underdeveloped hence it is developing?.. I have to make a research on this. not so sure...:Help1:

Wow Ireland on # 5!!:xxgrinning--00xx3:

I did watched news before about Norway. Their prison cells has a capacity of a certain number only so if there are new prisoners they have to wait in their homes until a vacancy..lol:omg:. They don't want to have an over crowded prison cells. So people that are convicted of major crimes are just roaming around town and have a normal life but of course they are being watched by authorities. I wonder why are they on top of the list? wowow:D....Based on the three HDI combined dimensions:)

good thread P and P :xxgrinning--00xx3:... Phils is way down ... down.. down...:doh But the challenge now is What reforms have been done by countries who made it on the top:Erm: Phils should learn from it. It may take another thousands of years for Pinas to be on the list of developed countries, but a little step will be worth coz it will redown to pinoys/pinays experiencing better lives while here in pinas. BUT Is there a way forward for Pinas?

It takes a certain kind of action for a nation of people to put away the bahala na (lazy deterministic) attitude, and gain a respect for themselves and their country. It also requires a way to find less corrupt officials. I think the sun may burn out first!
