Hello everyone! I am starting this thread HOME or AWAY. I will start with a premise that - Home - Philippines and Away- UK
If you are Filipino/Naturalised British home is Philipppines
If you are Native/British living in the Philippines home is UK
It would be interesting to know where will you spend your retirement, home or away? I dont mean, where do you wish but where will you really retire, be specific Philippines or UK and why? And what could be the age of retirement for you? Others go earlier than the retirable age.

this is a very nice thread hoping that it will not come to a point of comparing UK and Phil (like night and day) again as it causes friction. Considering that most of us Pinays here are married to Brit it shows a "bond" taking our relationship as an example. What brought us here to UK (for those who are in a relationship/engaged or married to Brit) is love and simply by taking a vow we promised to be with them till death so Phil or UK as long as together it really doesnt matter.
I wish everyone a good day.

I know a few who are nearly retiring and faced with the dilemma. One couple I know sad, wife will go back home, husband will stay here in UK. I do not want that to imagine.

Hello again jaishann! Thank you for your comment. I do not wish that on this thread. I am not comparing UK/PHILIPPINES here. I am trying to draw out your feelings being married to Brit/Filipinos and where will you go/stay when retirement is looming. Have you ever thought about it? Yes, it doesn't matter where, but sooner or later we will have to choose one, where we will live and stay permanently. What is the ideal place when you come to the age - where you are no longer capable?

I still like Philippines, here if your old you will just wait the heaven in old nursing home waiting for god, while in the philippines (just avoid the noise and humid) stay away from Manila will be fine, have walked every morning in a sorrounded by tress, making fire through the dried leaves and sit on a rope tie on the tress, listen to the chicken tik tilaok, dog running around the backyard, ahhh what a nice life in philippines.
Ok I will be fair, if your retire here in the UK,you had money from govt. sometimes go town by car, used wheel chair or the electric car for old people, going ASDA/TESCO and if your children no longer look for you, they will sent you to nursing home or you will stay all by yourself in your house, cant get out everyday during winter cause you will feel cold, athritis.almoranas will attack during cold (this partly joke) no ants, no coakroaches, no mosquitoes

If not in the Phils probably in Spain because of the weather, beaches, the culture and the food (i love paella huh!:D:xxgrinning--00xx3:). Philippines was colonised by the Spaniards for 400 yrs?(correct me if i'm wrong) and filipinos use Spanish words in filipino language and/or in some of the dialects. You're right i agree with your statements about getting old here they will stay in the home for the aged. There are advantages and disadvantages staying in the nursing home. But sometimes it is better to be with the same age group and being accepted, taken cared of and needed rather than being with relatives and not to feel the same. :D

And Bornabirth its just so happen that I am very observant whether I will stay here after the marraige or live in Philippines, and when I was young I worked in goverment so I managed to had my private pension plan and active the GSIS as well, I am working in Congress for 15 years, and file for 6 months leave, and so I need to decide after 6 months whether I will live here or carry on working to my boss in congress.

Well, speaking as someone who has lived in the both countries, I would suggest that if you're gonna stick around the UK that you learn to like it - or even love it - otherwise, you'll be unhappy the whole time, and that's no way to start a marriage.
That's just some advice from my own experience.:ARsurrender:

Ok I will be fair, if your retire here in the UK,you had money from govt. sometimes go town by car, used wheel chair or the electric car for old people, going ASDA/TESCO and if your children no longer look for you, they will sent you to nursing home or you will stay all by yourself in your house, cant get out everyday during winter cause you will feel cold, athritis.almoranas will attack during cold (this partly joke) no ants, no coakroaches, no mosquitoes
My choice: Philippines, life was happy down there indeed.
Hello September! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I don't think I could add more to that :) ...

:bigcry::bigcry: Yes, I am homesick, unfortunately :bigcry: but trying to be patience as I am shy to my fiancee, as he spend lots of money and effort to bring me here.
Hi september, you are quite a good observer, keep it up :xxgrinning--00xx3:
And being homesick is normal, specially for someone like you who's just been here a little over a week....
By the way, what department/division in Congress are you working for, if you don't mind?
I have a close friend who works in congress, you probably bump into each other already :)

We don't know yet, we haven't decided just yet. Depends really, on finances and all(?) hehe. My answer did not help, did it?
Hello jay&zobel! Thanks for joining in. Yes, finance is a consideration. And that is what I am really aiming here. Ready or not, that one day will come and are expected to have at elast prepared for it.

Yeah, no place like home as they say....My hubby loves tagaytay when i brought him there a couple of times before....
And the weather is cold there so he won't struggle with the heat unlike in the city (las pinas) where i live.... So tagaytay is a place worth considering in the future :xxgrinning--00xx3: But that's still a long long way ahead, plans could still change... :xxgrinning--00xx3: We'll see where we end up by then :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I have opened this topic to my husband but can't decide yet. Actually either of the 2 as long as we are together. My maternal grandfather has a Spanish descent. Oh so my answer is away..
:)
Hello Pepe n Pilar! Thank you for sharing. And though it seems too early to tell, it is good that this topic has become part of your discussion. Retirement will come whether we do something or not. It will really come. It is just good to note where we gear up ...

Well as for the 2 choices, I know for a fact that we will be retiring in Philippines when the time (savings:D:D) comes... But just now, we are both enjoying life here in the UK, as we both know that we have more opportunities here to save money for our retirement :D

Hello Tawi2! Thank you for asking and sharing your thoughts. So, do you speak Spanish? You seem adept on Philippines stuff. I will always go back to my home. I've lived in one or two places (countries) I could say home, but there is nothing like my (our) home - Philippines.

Rather six months in one and six months in the other. Why have one when you can have both.
The Wife loves Phill, but Loves much of her life in the UK.
The other intresting fact is how many newcommers to a country always say they will go home where ever home is and in the end, end up staying in the country they moved to for various reasons.
Also those who know they will go home have you children or planing to have them in the UK? From experience that seems to change plans for many.

You're right i agree with your statements about getting old here they will stay in the home for the aged. There are advantages and disadvantages staying in the nursing home. But sometimes it is better to be with the same age group and being accepted, taken cared of and needed rather than being with relatives and not to feel the same. :D
Hello again Pepe n Pilar! What you shared is another angle to look at. I was just wondering if you've read the article at yesterday's (Saturday) Daily Mail? I haven't read it yes, am still reading the Friday's issue. It is about John Suchet and I am quoting those words on print - 'a news reader reveals about his grief, guilt and crushing sense of failure after putting his Alzheimer's victim wife into care' ...

Hello September! Wow, so more or less you are sorted out. That is really amazing -pension plans and all that. Working at home is quite a bit establish in a sense that - working at private/government, there is a pension scheme, no matter how little.

Hello Somebody! Yeah, by observation that is what they do. But if you are in your 60s,70s,80s or to say the ugly truth - incapable of going out of the door ... that is where the question needs to be answered. Where do you plan to retire, Home or Away?

Hello everyone! I am starting this thread HOME or AWAY. I will start with a premise that - Home - Philippines and Away- UK
If you are Filipino/Naturalised British home is Philipppines
If you are Native/British living in the Philippines home is UK
It would be interesting to know where will you spend your retirement, home or away? I dont mean, where do you wish but where will you really retire, be specific Philippines or UK and why? And what could be the age of retirement for you? Others go earlier than the retirable age.
Me and hubby was thinking in PI. In 25-30 years time I guess :)

Hello Tawi2! Spanish is part of Phils. Curriculum for a time, that was long time ago. It was scrap. Students are not that keen. I like Spanish but am no good, just self taught. My husband is on the same line but near :). I had many chances going to 'leaving dos' ... they all from different departments. Maybe? :D ...

Well not always that old.
Plenty of Asians and West Indians I have met say yeah I was only here for a college course or a few years of work. Then I would go back when I had saved enough, then we had kids then etc etc.
One West Indian man who came in 1946 I think to study and then go home is still here I used to chat to him at the Gym, so I think he was healthy enough to travel home:D
He mentioned the country he had known had changed so much as had his friends and family back "home" and had bulit up relationships with his family and friends here he didn't want to lose. His sons and daughters would not leave and he said he didn't want to miss his grand chilldren growing up..
People deciding where to retire in thirties years I belive are counting there chickens i belive.
30 years ago 1979 the Phillipines was very different to today as was the UK.
But of course you have to plan today for the future. But how much will your British pounds be worth in thirties years?

Hello somebody! I am afraid that is the reality. Good for those who had got both currencies. Or should I say good if you have options. Since we are in PHIL/UK forum, which obviously we are part PHIL/UK memebers, it is worth knowiing where are are heading. Of course, we can't always plan the future.
