I am a 28 year old female that was born in Australia to a Filo/Spanish mother and English/Scottish father. My mom moved to Sydney approximately 32 years ago. I live in Sydney, NSW (in the suburb of Artarmon which is 10km from the CBD) with my boyfriend, Josh, of five years who is an absolute saint. I am currently completing my masters in law and I am a research assistant to a barrister in Sydney.
The main reason that I have been lurking on these boards to find out a bit more about my maternal grandmother's culture. I have only been to the Philippines a handful of times and a few of those trips were at very young ages (4 months old and about 4 or 5 years old). The times that I have been to the Philippines I was pretty sheltered and didn't get to see any of the beautiful places that I have read about because my mom grew up in Manila. I haven't been back for a while because my mom's family has been coming to visit us in Sydney instead.

Hi welcome to the forum. :Hellooo::Hellooo::Hellooo: I hope you could visit Philippines now that you are grown up and find out more about your maternal grandmother's culture. It's better to see and experience it yourself how it is like in here- reading and hearing about Philippines isn't enough.:xxgrinning--00xx3::xxgrinning--00xx3::xxgrinning--00xx3:

:Hellooo: Welcome, Jay. Being a family history enthusiast myself, I can fully understand your urge to learn as much as possible about your grandmother's lifestyle. Good luck in your quest ... and also in completing your legal studies. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Thanks guys!
I have been reading a few other boards, but I like this one the best because I don't speak a word of Tagalog.
The one thing I have recently read on a few different forums was the notion that people from the Philippines aren't Asian. I asked my mom and she said the Philippines is in Asia and she considers herself to be part-Asian. She nearly fell off her chair when I told her there were some Filipinos going around calling themselves Pacific Islanders. That can't be right? What do you think?
