Passport help please?

My fiancee and I are marrying on 16th January.
We are planning a trip to Philipines in March, and I want to book tickets now if possible, (We are travelling with friends who have already booked so need to make sure we can get on the same flight).

Rona's passport is still in her current name however, and I believe we can't apply for the name to be changed until after we're married.

Is it OK to book and travel with her existing passport, and get the name changed after we get back?
Or does ayone have any other suggestions?

You'd be fine to get her passport changed after you get back.

Even if you do get it updated (would have to be a non-machine readable one) all they do is put a stamp in the amendments page to say you are married and your new name, the main page they leave with your old name.

As I have said several times before. On marriage a woman is not required by UK law to change her name. Thus she can can continue to use her maiden name forever if she chooses.

As for international requirements: As an example, in Spain a Spanish citizen cannot change their name even on marriage, thus internationally the name is not a problem, a genuine passport is all that is needed.

If you think about it logicically. A person does not change who they are by changing their name. They are still the same person.

Just because a a man and a woman have the same surname does not prove they are married. Under UK law a person can change their name without a reason. Thus a couple living together could have the same surname, even in their passports, because one of them changed their name. ' What's in a name? '

I guess the previous post answered your query already just want to clarify you said you are marrying on 16th January and planning a trip in March is that same year 2010? just to remind you to consider her UK Fiancee visa expiry coz after marriage she need to apply ILR that I've heard takes 2-3months or quicker if its personal appearance:) :Erm: and from what I've read to the previous post she can still use her existing passport as long as it's not expired:)

if I did not make it clear:

A person does not need to change their passport when they get married. It is still valid. Thus one can choose not to amend it or renew it, until it is due to expire.

As an example. We married in Phil and travelled via Germany to Spain. My wife's passport was in her maiden name and no questions were asked.

All correct. Married on January 16th, FLR application going in immediately after this. If we need to we can head to the embassy and get it sorted in person. (I hope!)

A word of warning / caution.

If u are travelling in March, you'll need to apply for the FLR in person, and get
it granted there & then.

At present, a postal application for FLR is running at about 3mnths.
(evidenced by me & two others that we know).
