This might not seem a big thing to some old hands, but I've just bought a plane ticket to the Philippines. I'll be travelling (weather permitting) in less than two weeks to meet a woman I've been chatting to for six weeks.
I'm feeling a strange sensation in my chest. I think it's excitement. I love her already. How can that be? How can I even know her? What if when she meets me she doesn't like me? What if she does like me?
Have I gone mad? I don't feel as though I have, but I'm not used to feeling like this. I need to take some deep breaths. If anyone can give me the verbal equivalent of beta-blockers, I'd be grateful. Thanks for listening. Tom.

Dont worry have a back up plan incase you do find yourself on your own for whatever reason. Ie know how to get a taxi to your hotel. But dont worry we have been there and if you were nto nervous it would not be right.

As the snows falls here in blighty im a tad jealous:D

Good luck with it all! That's quick from the first chat to the time that you will actually be together. Will be nice to escape the cold weather for a couple of weeks. Whereabouts are you going there? Wish I could do it, but the recession has affected me quite a bit, so am on the least money that I've been on for quite a while. :doh

You don't need beta blockers or Viagra ! But even at this late date, you do need to visit your GP for advice ("risk assessment"), if you have not already done so, about travel to the Philippines. You might need to purchase and start antimalarials a week before you go. You should have been vaccinated against tetanus, hepatitis A, and typhoid. Other vaccines ( diphtheria, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, rabies, cholera) may be considered depending on where you travel and what you intend doing while you are in the country. There is a Vaccination information Service ( https://vis.spmsd.co.uk) with more details. I'm sure also you will have arranged comprehensive travel insurance.

That's it doc... You have put him right off the trip.....:doh

Yup, the house doc is right... Prevention is better than cure.
Don't listen to the people that say that in all the years of traveling it never happened to them, so it would be pointless.....:NoNo:

As the lottery ad says... "It may be you"....:doh

Thank you all for you kind wishes and good advice (well... mostly. I might not take a map of brothels :) ) I went to see the nurse today, and she said I needed a slap for leaving it so late :). She got her revenge though. She gave me jabs for polio, tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis A and typhoid. It was just two jabs, but my arms feel as though it was five. I've also got a course of antimalarials.
The recession does make it tougher financially. I haven't had much of a pay rise for a couple of years now, but as long as I don't lose my job, I should be able to save up for occasional trips.
She is in Cebu, and I'm thinking I won't take her too far afield. I've had lots of jabs, but she hasn't, so I'll try to stay away from disease areas.

Been there too....and everytime arrive back in manila airport, knowing that maristela is waiting outside down where the filipinos wait for their families to arrive. at the carousel waiting for my bags I telephone to say, there in 5 minutes. My heart pounding with excitement. Then I walk down to the arrivals to be faced by a 100filipinos waiting just like maristela. Its pretty much like a show they watch us reunite and a little bit embarrassing but who cares.!!
I am back out there in 1 week and its the best feeling in the world. It never changes it just gets better and better.

Hey Tom!

That was pretty slick man!! I managed two months before organising the holiday - I'm off myself in just a little over seven weeks, under similar circumstances. Everything seems to be going from strength to strength.. and like you I'm VERY giddy!! :)

It was very much like pulling the rabbit out of the proverbial hat pulling the funds together, but it's surprising what you can do when you put your mind AND heart into it!

Good luck to us both mate! I hope it all works out for you!!

Thanks for all your kind messages. I haven't been sat on, I just haven't been checking the forum: I've been trying to go to work and recover from jet lag at the same time.
I had a wonderful time, and she is a lovely as I thought :) I've got mixed feelings about the country... it's such a mixture. Anyway, I'm now trying to save up for another visit. I think it's good advice to go out as soon as you can.
