Are SMART/GLOBE Roaming SIM Cards can be used in UK?:Erm: Am planning to send a Roaming SIM to my fiance in UK so that it will be cheaper for me to send messages to him specially while on our way to visit him in UK this April but still worried it might not work there.:doh Does anyone here in the forum uses Philippine roaming SIMS?

We use a SMART one in the UK and it works fine. The only thing with the SMART sim that we have is you need to turn roaming on before leaving the Philippines and it won't roam if the load on it is too low.

This doesn't cause us any problems as we have a SMART Plug N Talk PC device which allows us to use our sim as if we were in the Philippines.

You won't need to send a Smart or Globe sim-card from Phils to UK, as you can buy them in the Uk from Calling now, as I did and it's only £10 with a 200 pesos load. It will only cost you 1 pesos to send him a message!:xxgrinning--00xx3: Here's the link to the sim cards: http://www.callingnow.co.uk/store.asp/c=39

Hi all,
I got my first ever mobile phone for Christmas (I'm a luddite), and I don't understand much about it yet. I've got a few questions

1) If I got one of these roaming SIMS, could I just put it in my phone?
2) Would that change my phone number?
3) Would it change the rates I pay for calls? What would the new ones be?

Sorry if these questions are a bit basic. All the documentation I can find for mobile phones seems to assume that you already know a lot about them.

You would need a seperate mobile phone for the roaming sim and it would need to be an unlocked one as Smart and Globe are Phils mobile phone networks and wouldn't work in a UK mobile phone that is locked to Orange, O2, 3, Vodaphone and T-Mobile etc. The roaming sim card will come with it's own seperate phone no.

For you to send a text on it to phils it is about 10 pesos which is about 15p and it's 1p for her to send you a text from her phone in phils to yours in UK. Click on the Calling now link above for more info or give them a call.

Hope that helps?!
