Hi there everyone. We are now thinking/planning in advance about further leave to remain as i have been posted on a 1 year assignment abroad and the wifey will go with me off course, but she is on a spouse visa. We will be back well in advance of the expiry date (4-5 months hopefully).

I would like to know (joebloggs im sure you have the answer), how long is an FLR visa valid for? we will be applying for this next year but just want to find out some details.

Thanks in advance

Rob.

i might be answering my own question here but does it depend on how long you need to then qualify for ILR, as in how long (plus a contingency) you have left to satisfy the 2 years in the UK?

usually FLR is valid for 2yrs, or sometimes they will make it shorter.

there is no set number of days you need to be in the UK to apply for ILR, but the uk is suppose to be your home.

if work has posted you to another country then the case worker may well accept that your wife has a valid reason for being out of the UK a year and still grant her ILR.but phone UKBA and ask for their advice.. you might have to apply for FLR still

but it will probably delay her applying for citizenship.
