if you download chikka messenger in your pc, you could send free text messages to a mobile in Philippines. The sendee should do a one time registration. The sender could send up to 3 free text messages if the sendee wont reply to one of the messages. The reply costs P2.50

This is the first I've heard of this and am keen to find out more. I'm not bothered about saving money on my SMS's to the Phil's because I'm on a business contract and I never use my full SMS allowance each month, but my g/f is always complaining that it costs her 15Php to SMS me.
How can she get her SMS cost down to 2.5Php?

Further to last question. Just wondering if this would work?
I could buy my g/f a £20 PAYG UK SIM card, that gives say 200 messages? Take it out to the Phils next time. She installs it in her un-blocked ex-UK Vodaphone BlackBerry. Typical costs for texting a UK to UK phone number is approx 10 pence. Is that still the case when texting from abroad on a UK phone to the UK? I text my kids a lot when I'm overseas and I've never noticed an increase in my own costs when I get my monthly bill. The only increase is see is for voice calls to the UK at £1+ per minute.
I'm on 02 now, so if i get her a 02 SIM, she might even get some free texts to the same network?

You need to get a smart or globe roaming sim, then she can text you for 1 Php per text.
You can buy online at http://www.callingnow.co.uk/store.asp/c=39

Many thanks for that, I'm assuming that she can text me for 1php if I put the SIM in my phone?
The only problem I have with that is that my phone is on 02 in the Uk and I don't want to have to keep swapping my SIM card over just in case she might send me a text.
I'm on a business contract with unlimited internet access, so I leave my Skype, Google Talk and E-Buddy (for Yahoo) open 24/7/365, so she can get hold of me anytime anyway. It's easier for me if she swaps over her SIM card if she wants to chat by text if she can't chat online.

I gave her a Blackberry that was only 6 months old and she lost it at Easter:doh I've since bought her another slightly older BlackBerry on ebay, I'm not buying her another phone.
The contract's up on my HTC Hero in another 6 months and she can have that when I get a new phone.
The phone isn't really the issue for her, it's the cost of sending SMS messages to me at 15 php a time or the cost being on line on a phone. Smart charge 50php a day for internet access, which isn't a lot to us here, but is a lot for a Filipina with very little income.
What I'm looking for is the cheapest way for her to send texts or to be on line, without it meaning I have to change my SIM.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm on 02, and my guess is that it would be cheapest and easiest to buy her a 02 PAYG SIM, stick £20 or £30 on it for her and I think it will only cost 10pence per text between 02 phones anywhere in the world. Therefore she'll be able to send 200 or 300 texts - and of course it won't cost her anything because I'll pay for the SIM.
If anyone can clarify that, I would be very grateful.

Can you not just send her some load. :Erm: I don't know about 02 prices, but if she needs to call or text family or friends, that maybe expensive?
