I've been nagging my g/f for ages to get a job and she finally has some interviews for call centre work via an agent.
She says she has to complete lots of papers and checks have to be done and they all cost money, about 5000 in total.
1. sss
2. Nbi clearance
3. Brgy clearance
4. Philhealth
5.NSO
6. Tin number
Apologies for any mistakes on the abreviations, I've just lifted these from messenger.
Just wanted to check that either the agent isn't scamming her, or that my generosoity isn't being taken advantage of. I don't doubt that if there is a cost, that it will be less than has been stated.
Cheers

hi there englishman , i was talking to emma about working in the call centers there and after her telling me about what wage and after they take out tax and the usualy stuff i told her not to bother, even working abroad was thousands upfront, so we desided to bring her here and try to find work while our plans come into force

The wage is good for the Phils, about 200 Euros (£180) PM.
Its about £80 for the tests/checks/papers which isn't a lot to me and I will send it if its right, but I just like check that it's genuine, I already feel like an ATM, all the girls in my local Western Union know me by first name now, and I'm sure the extended family see me as a way to make a few quid.

1. SSS - would cost u just about less than Php300..i'm not sure if the amount is still the same but it wont definitely exceed Php500
2. NBI - about Php150..double it if u want an ID for future clearance renewals
3. Brgy clearance - it's free just go to their barangay office
4. Philhealth - this one i'm not sure how much..but as far as i can remember, i didnt pay for it upon work application..i got deductions Php500 monthly though from my salary
5. NSO - where u get ur birth certificate..less than Php500
6. TIN - the company would process this but she doesnt have to pay for it..taxes are deducted monthly when she starts working only.

Many thanks for that, I don't doubt the cost includes additions for transport, photocopying any other sundries plus some rounding up !!!!!

i honestly dont know how agencies process this applications..but she can do this all by herself..without spending Php5000! She herself should be the one personally getting those requirements anyway except getting Philhealth and Tin since it's usually the company who applies for that..and she can call NSO and pay in accredited banks for the birth cert. Agencies adds so much to whats usually just a small amount for processing things..and they also get big percentage from salaries..

Sorry, you misunderstood me, I don't think the agent is rounding up. I asked how much it would cost her to get everything sorted and was told 5000 would cover it, that cost probably includes some new clothes for interviews too. To be fair she does live about an hour south of Manila, so there will be a few round trips on the buses and Jeepney's ...etc.
Thanks for your help, it was very useful info:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Still not sure Steve, several things have happened which make me question whether I am being used as a cash machine and seen as a way out of poverty and the slums. I can understand that, but am not going to make any life changing commitment until I am sure. I don't want this to sound like paranoia, I'm just making sure I have my eyes open and checking facts.
Don't get me wrong, she has may great qualities too and is always there when I need her. I'm just getting a bit fed up of supporting her for the last 8 months or so as she hasn't had a job. Hopefully, she will get this job in the call centre and will be less of a burden on me.
I agree that if your g/f makes you happy then it's all worthwhile and the other things shouldn't really matter.

Think if you are serious, you have to forget some of these thoughts, we may have all had.
It's not that easy to get a decent paying job & yes you will probably have to pay out first. system.
My wife is working now part-time & she's paid a pittance. Wont keep her in food, let alone pay for all her living expenses & she lives a simple life...So forget about being able to save, as I think you mentioned in a previous post.
You'll probably still have to support her financially.

They are right, it won't cost that much to complete the requirements but she might be needing some amount of it as her allowance during her probationary period

Thanks for your input, all points taken on board.
She claims that Brgy is 450, and she has to pay to get the Tin and PhilHealth apps processed, as well as having to pay for a medical examination before they will accept her, plus she needs some new clothes...etc.
4 -5k is probably about right when everything has been taken on board.

Why she need agent? Is it interview by agency or employer? Is she never worked before?
If she worked before she doesn't need to register and pay again but registration cost less than £5 to SSS and she can register online. She needs local NBI and it's cheaper. £3 would be ok and if she has NBI before, she can only renew. Barangay clearance is only donation in our city. £1 is too much donation. Philheath is counterpart by employer. She only needs local NSO and I got mine for less than £5 in our nearest NSO office. TIN usually register by employer and if she worked before, she doesn't need any.
The expensive part of applying a job is transportation and food. :xxgrinning--00xx3:
We have 3 call centres in our city and they are hiring. She can apply direct online. INFONXX/KGB, TELETEC, Convergys - ALI-NUVALI

:omg:No payment for brgy(u can give donation of P50)..No payment to get Philhealth but the company will deduct from her salary every month ....
dont forget when your gf gets hired there are some company who don't give their first full salaries(the company will be saving it and this will serve as a backpay which she can get eventually after she leaves serving them)
I also agree with ate pen,, your gf can apply direct online .
and also, try to check the name of the call center if its in the official list of call centers in the philippines...(lots claiming they are call center but just some sort of networking scams)

You've hit the nail on the head Penny. If she doesn't ask I give it to her, but when she asks I question why she wants it, and usually find out later that there may have been exaggerations and a few untruths.
I've told her what I've found out, she's tried to come up with a justifiable reason, and she's having a sulk now, but at least she knows she wont pull the wool over my eyes.

I think I've got as much truth as I'm going to get out of her, and it isn't worth pushing it any more. But the long and short of it is that figures may have been made up and then doubled, and there has also been an allowance for new shoes, clothes, food, travel, load on phone, contribution to family......etc,etc - and not by the agent !!!!
I'm not saying that all Filipina's are like that, instead I've come to the conclusion that all women are like that:action-smiley-081::Brick:

I completely agree with you Sim, and I have told her that I will still support her as I know the pay in the Phil's is poor, and then there are the other pressures that family put on each other to help and support.
All I have said to her is that I have been supporting her, quite generously by Filipino standards for long enough, and she shouldn't rely on it. If she is serious about me and eventually coming to the UK one day she has got to show willing and commitment by at least getting a job and trying to help herself.
Of course I realise that I am a rich westerner in her eyes, and probably make more in a day than she can earn a month, and as such I am quite happy to pay the lions share.
However, I am not the welfare state, and effort has to be made on her part too. is that unfair?

I have no plans to walk away Steve, I am confident that she is genuine, if she were only after my money, I feel sure she would have slacked with the communication a long time ago and would only get in touch when she wanted something. Far from it, she contacts me 4 or 5 times a week and chats on line with me for lenghty periods. I'm not looking at this with rose tinted specs, and I'm absolutely sure her love and affection is for real.
My issue isn't whether she is genuine, it's her previous lack of motivation to get a job. Being fair to her, she has tried hard over the last 3 weeks since I left the Phil's, and the reward for her effort is lots of job interviews last week and this week.
Of course I don't mind giving financial support, but as there is no good reason why she cannot get a job she has got to help herself too. I don't expect anything monetary wise back in return, I don't need it, I can provide for myself very comfortably.
I hope I've properly explained what I mean?
Yes, I've been burned financially by an ex too, so look at things with my eyes firmly open now, and have learned to question far more than I did in the past, even if it means causing the occasional bit of upset.

Sounds like your situation was very similar to mine Steve. Yes, she says she spends all day cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry, looking after grandma, nephews, nieces...etc. If I hadn't been there and visited her house, I probably wouldn't believe her. I think part of the problem living in the west is that we have labour saving devices that do many of the jobs they have to do manually, we also tend to have homes that require less hard work to keep clean.
I hope that my posts don't sound like I don't trust her, on the contrary, I'm merely getting some of my frustration off my chest.
In answer to your question, I try to get to see her every 3 or 4 months and usually go for approx 2 weeks. I've made 3 trips out to the Far East in the last 8 months and have 2 more planned between now and Dec/Jan. I really can't afford any more and can't take any more time off work. Fortunately, modern communications (wifi, laptop and a smart phone mean that I can still do some work out there, hence the reason why I can justify 4 x 2 week trips a year)
