View Full Version : Searching for previous threads

Since the new format I have found problems searching for threads. An example, this morning I was replying to a thread on 'ATD cards' should they be sent to Phil ?.

I accidentally closed the browser. When I tried to find the post again to make a comment, having tried various combinations of the question, I could not find the thread.

Any ideas.

Thanks for that but it only takes me to the forum web page, not the actual thread.

I believe there is a gremlin in the search system which needs sorting, as clearly if a person has a problem, it will almost always have been discussed before, thus it is better they can consult the earlier posts, where they will probably find the answer, before posting a question, .

If my experience is representative, a search may not reveal previous threads.

Can someone please look into this?

Thanks, John

You can search by all post TODAY, YESTERDAY, between APRIL-MAY etc ... if you are searching for ATD you won't find it as keywords have to be a minimum of 4 letters and a max of 14. Without those restrictions the index database grows to over 4 Million and slows the server down never mind the site.

However the way round the restriction is to use the search engines: 'ATD cards' site:filipinaroses.com (http://filipinaroses.com)
... but as you can see HERE (http://www.google.co.uk/#num=50&hl=en&newwindow=1&safe=off&rlz=1R2GPCK_enGB345&q=atd+cards+site%3Afilipinaroses.com+&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=2448a8284c6b9e7b)you get no results so it's not on this site.

The search function on the new site is more powerful than the last one.

I did that, but it did not show the thread. SEarching all todays threads I found the one I wanted. But the 'ATM CARDS' I think shouold havs found it. Am I wrong ?

The thread I was looking for is headed 'Thread: Atm'

why cant you find it in the web browser history?

As I said the history only shows the sites I have visited not where I have been on the site.

However, the point I was making was that people should be able to find a thread by searching this site, so as to avoid the same questions being posted over and over again

:Erm: You said "ATD cards" .... now you've changed to "ATM cards" :Brick:

As long as they can find it on the search engines, that is the way they usually get into the site http://www.google.co.uk/#num=50&hl=en&newwindow=1&safe=off&rlz=1R2GPCK_enGB345&q=atm+cards+site%3Afilipinaroses.com+&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=2448a8284c6b9e7b

Yes sorry, a mis-type but I did change it with my subsequent post. (I wonder what ATD cards are ?)
Did you ry a search on 'ATM cards'. I did and could not find the thread. That was why I made this thread.

I did, and it did not come up.

I did subsequently find the thread I wanted but, as I said, had I not known it was there, and made a search on 'all posts today' I would not have found it. Thus a person with a question about ATM cards just making a search, to avoid starting a new thread unnecessarily, would not have found it.

click on the advanced search, look for find posts and then click on dates, roll down to yesterdays then click the search button underneath it.

i just did it and that atm thread was at the bottom :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Bornatbirth,

May I ask you to imagine that you have a question about sending ATM cards to Phil. You want to find out if there have been any posts on that subject. You of course have no idea when or if there has been. Can you then find the ATM card thread ?

That was the point I was hoping to make.

the boss already said the new search engine is a lot more complex, you just have to try and use it and i do understand what your saying and wish it was easier to use, i did try searching for atm and it didnt come up.

maybe the boss can give us some tips! :Erm: :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Hey the thread is in "Loose Talk,Chat and Off Topic", started by Ross asking if its safe to send ATM card to Phil.

No THREE letter words are allowed. I do not have the server capacity as Google does. If you want 3 then the index will contain 4.4 Million records :doh, and has to process that every time someone searches or clicks Unread Posts .... besides UK folk search for DEBIT or VISA not ATM
