Curent Wait Times - Settlement Visas

For those who regularly ask, how long does it take for a fiance/spouse visa? Well the information is on the UK Border Agency website. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/processingtimes
In Manila in June 2010, 95% of visas were processed within 30 days and all within 4 months!

Me and the princess applied in July 2010 and the princess visa was issued within 48 hours ..one of the lucky ones i suspect .

Might sound like a silly question but is this the time it takes from actually submitting the application form - which I understand has to be online now.

Just seems incredibly quick for the embassy to receive the forms, verify everything, arrange interview and issue the visa. Some years ago this was taking around 3 to 4 months on average so is this because of the VFS system or that the embassy are making quicker decisions or both?

the embassy hardly interview people any more, usually if they want further information or suspect something is not right
i dont think they bother doing the 'local checks' any more, that use to be one of the main reasons given when people asked why it was taking so long.

Although the application form is submitted online, you still have to book an appointment at VFS to submit the supporting documents and have biometrics done. The waiting times are from this date. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I agree!
As long as you have completed the documents required upon checking by the VFS staff then there shoudnt be a problem and no more interviews.
Most of us here has a succesful spouse visa application and it only took us 2 to 7 days of waiting.

With this vast improvement in turn round time of visa applications - some years ago this was taking 3 to 4 months - it seems to me that there has been a change in emphasis at embassies around the world. The VFS system has obviously speeded up things a lot but I can't help feeling that this is only part of the explanation and it is the UK government's obsession with targets that is really driving this (whether the new govt. places less emphasis on targets in future remains to be seen).

Therefore it seems that the ECOs are under pressure to meet targets and applications have become a "tick-box" exercise. In other words if you produce evidence to satisy all the citeria on the face of it you will get your visa in a few days. Detailed checking and interviewing has become a thing of the past and your visa application is either accepted on its own merits or rejected outright so that targets are met.

Therefore it is imperative that applications are completed fully and accurately with documentary evidence.

I agree.
Tick boxing is used. Provided the ECO can 'tick' all boxes all is OK
If any of the boxes are not able to be 'ticked' the application gets sifted for review.
The subsequent review may become detailed depending on the level of 'risk'

it took nearly 3 months for my wife to get her visa, when i complained to the 'whiteys' at the embassy, she got her visa the next day :doh

the excuse most people got was the embassy was waiting for the results of 'local checks', i presume with the targets to reach now, and not doing 'local checks' for the majority of people visas are issued in days and not weeks or months for some people.

I presume that it was some time ago (years?) that your spouse got her visa?

I think the lesson to be learned here is to follow the VFS checklist rigorously - present your application in the order they suggest and all nicely numbered according to the sections. Then the ECO can just go down the list and tick all the boxes. That's what he is looking for - he's happy he's ticked all the boxes and you'll be happy you got the visa - win/win!

but less than 1 yr ago some people were waitng more than 3 months :NoNo:

thou it helps, but your not going to be delayed for 2 or 3 months just becuase your visa app is mixed up.

more likely it depends on the time of year, hardly any interviews at the embassy any more, not do carrying out 'local checks', and as you've said targets to reach...:D

some say it will take 3 days up to 3 weeks to some.. while there are lucky people here that got it in one day.

I think I read on a website somewhere that they have introduced a technique called Structured Decision Making. Not sure what its all about but it helps to rationalise the process and helps evaluation.
