Hi all,
Following Rosie’s post on making a will can I also remind people how important having a pre payment funeral plan can be for some of us.
I started mine at age 60; it’s a bit like a life insurance except it only pays out at death.
But it does mean my children will by phoning the claim number I have given them with the details receive enough money to cover the funeral cost, and make sure they know my wishes.
A woman I know slightly died recently, she lived very much hand to mouth, and the family found the death benefits do not cover the funeral cost, and this has caused a lot of distress to her only daughter who also has little money.

hmm....it makes me feel sad talking about funeral plans but anyways, we have to be prepared and practical and i can understand why we need to do all that before and incase something happened.
Now a days they do this installment/plan even in the Philippines.
Our next door neighbor has been giving his contributions for so many years only for his funeral. Now hes gone, everything went well. Family didnt have to worry for a single penny. And the company gave him the funeral he has requested.

I remember going to a funeral of a man who lived in the same block of flats as I did, not where I am now but before around 5 years ago, ho had not had anything to do with his family, and when I went to rthe crem the coffin was not carried in it was allready there in the curtined area.
His daughters were there and the service lasted less than 5 min, just enough to say who he was and that was that.
I would not want a send off like that, whatever happens with me there will be enough money for a wake of some sort.
I have also made well known where I want my ashes scatterd.

mostly filipinos dont get funeral plans as they always get financial help from families and neighbor when someone died in the family...its good though to have a place in the cemetery ready as it cost a lot if u want a decent one....dont know how here in UK not bother to know yet anyway lol....its good though to have always money in the bank saved for whatever situation that may rise that requires money in the future :)

Nice one, Rani! :icon_lol: And so to that funny story I promised Mick, yesterday:
There I was :olddude: ... sitting in the verandah at the front of Myrna's relatives' house in a subdivision of Tagum City - waiting impatiently for the '2-Go' dispatch rider to arrive with my wife's spousal visa ... as had been my wont [practically] every day since we'd deposited her supporting documents at VFS Global in Manila some 3 weeks' previously.
As usual, I kept straining my ears  listening for the sound of an official-looking motorcycle (by which mode of transport we'd been informed her passport - hopefully  containing the coveted visa - and other bumf would be returned). Well ... lo' and behold ... on this particular early evening, up drove a fancy motorbike, which drew to a halt outside the garden gate. A well-dressed gentleman dismounted ... and proceded to remove a large briefcase from the machine's sidecar. "Myrna, Myrna", I called excitedly, "it's ... it's ... " "No, no", Myrna burst out laughing as she came rushing out of the front door - "that's NOT the '2-go' courier ... it's the man who collects Manang and Manoy's monthly 'Funeral Plan' instalments!"
We can both laugh NOW  as we recount the tale to others. But at the time ... aw jeez! :doh

My father is wanting to be buried in a churchin the north of scotland where the rest of his relatives are.
He wanted a lair reserved and I discovered that the lair has to be bought and reserved and is in my name so that when he dies I can do all the arrangements.
If it was in his name it would become part of his estate nothing could be done until the executor had collected everything together.

And what a delay that would have made, adding to the deep grief :cwm23:

I have to admit that I don't have a funeral plan yet as I still have a lot of life insurance policies in place but it is definately something that I will consider for the future :xxgrinning--00xx3:

My father has a full secret plan that he's given me for his cremation. He wants me to put some of those fake fingers clawing out of the coffin, put a tape recording of him saying 'let me out', 'let me out' inside and a few fireworks in to make sure he goes with a bang. Followed by a heavy drinking session with lots of music to celebrate his life!
Thankfully my family have gained enough of his sick sense of humour that they will probably appreciate it!
