Tina is a one man lab, totally devoted... if I can work out how to post a picture in the gallery I'll put one in.

Are you scared of the dark or is it just a bit so so?

I must confess on a bright moonlight night I do take Tina out through the woods here, lovely with the moon and the stars.

stevewool
30th September 2010, 19:12
rani me and emma collect 350 peso and we have a jar full of those coins with a hole in each one you are very welcome to those, but dont worry once we are sorted out we shall be over there to see you, simon where ever you are in the world as long as you are with that special person anywhere is great :xxgrinning--00xx3:

You are quite right stevewool, being with the right person is more important than where you are, and apologies, I should have passed on my congratulations for your forthcoming marriage instead of rabbitting on, put it down to "newbee fever"!

i am now afraid of the dark after the horrifying experienced we had... i also love to walk through the woods or at the countryside especially during sunset as the magic hour brings joy to me :)

forester
30th September 2010, 19:28
rani,

I'm saddened that you have had a bad experience, keep the memories of the countryside sunsets safe in your mind and enjoy them, nobody can hurt them or take them away.

forester
30th September 2010, 19:31
Stevewool,

I'm maybe lucky taht the nearest neighbours are about 1/2 mile away, I live on the edge of a forest, I'm a forestry consultant so if I am out and see someone else its usually them that are up to no good.... especially near Christmas!

disaster - no moon, stars are good though.
rani, some filipinos came and had luch with me a couple of weeks ago, not sure if they liked my cooking, but when they looked out one said "your neighbours are all trees!", it was lovely.

forester
30th September 2010, 20:00
Stevewool,
On a lovely sunny day it can be (maybe) the best job in the world, but when the rain is horizontal like yesterday something else can be attractive!

forester
30th September 2010, 20:08
Stevewool,

There is so much light pollution near the cities, if I look to the south I can see the neon glow of Glasgow, but everywhere else it is clear and the stars are sharp.

I can see orion and the plough tonight, others I'm not so sure of.

so simon wha brings you to us then tell us more about yourself
:)

raynaputi
30th September 2010, 20:46
Simon, we are all called Filipino..it's just we usually refer the females by changing the last letter to "a"..even in names..example, for a guy with a name "Dino", its female counterpart name would be "Dina"..

Dedworth
30th September 2010, 20:46
so if I am out and see someone else its usually them that are up to no good.... especially near Christmas!

Hi Forester - Would that be Pikey Christmas Tree Rustlers ? :D

forester
30th September 2010, 20:51
omg, a big question.

I like filipnos and filipinas, most of them I have met at the care home my father is in, we get on well together and I find it incredible that so many travel the world for work.

Read some books as I said, but they didn't give me answers to the silly questions I was looking for, trawled the websites and found here, though it must have taken two weeks before I signed up, wasn't sure what to expect and a bit wary,

ps Have I put you all to sleep?

forester
30th September 2010, 20:53
Dedworth, spot on, don't know the filipino word for pikey

Terpe
30th September 2010, 20:56

Dedworth
30th September 2010, 21:04
Dedworth, spot on, don't know the filipino word for pikey

SCUM comes to mind :D someone can translate to Tagalog

forester
30th September 2010, 21:10
Steve, if I met the right filipina and she felt the same way, then yes.

The hard bit is the meeting, some of the filipinas in the care home are busy trying to match me up and I try and explain that a photo on facebook is not what I am looking forthough I do appreciate their help.

forester
30th September 2010, 21:11
Dedworth,

Scum is universal language!

forester
2nd October 2010, 19:33
steve, whoever pays the piper etc etc.

Here is a question that you or somebdy else may be able to help me with.

I've read some books about the Philippines ranging from Culture shock to some histories.

Much of the culture is talked about, but does that only really occur in the more rural areas now and the bigger cities are like big cities throughout the world albeit with their own particular style.

Maybe I should raed the Culture shock for the UK and see if I recognise the place!

forester
2nd October 2010, 19:48
rani are you awake again?

stevewool
2nd October 2010, 21:11
most people move out of the rural areas to the cities for work and it must be one big shock for many , but as you are aware by now, the filipino people adapt to many many things very quicky, i think we could never adapt as quickly as they do but who knows, if we was in a other situation

forester
3rd October 2010, 18:11
Thanks sim, I had looked at my trusty diary and had thought it was 8 hours ahead, then got my arithmetic totally wrong thinking it was later than 6.00pm.

i must be due a job in the Treasury or a bank on this performance!

stevewool
3rd October 2010, 19:43

forester
3rd October 2010, 19:47
I know that there are lots of other threads about long distance relationships, but it must be a real bind with such a time difference.

I presume the only good thing is the web and everything that goes with it otherwise it would be the landline and snail mail.

stevewool
3rd October 2010, 19:53
with me and emma and everyone else you look for the best ways , skype is one of the best for me and emma i think if we did not have well who knows where we would be, mobile phones too but have to watch the cost too, but again if there is a way you would find it :)

lots of that on here , so is your dad in the home perminant

forester
3rd October 2010, 20:35
Yip ,my mother died 3 years ago this month and my father was of the generation when a man did nothing ( I bet this causes some comment!)

He has always drunk heavily despite being a physician and when my mother died he got worse, about a litre of spirits a day, and expected my brother and I to look after him.

Set meal times 6.00am for breakfast, lunch 9.30am, supper 3.15pm and bed 5.00pm.
We managed for nearly 9 months, but could'nt do it any more knackered.

In the care home he is down to 3 litres a week and my brother and I go in day about to take him out for a smoke 7.45am.

had a stroke in July which left him paralyised down hi sleft side and at 87 it isn't getting better quickly.

Filipinos are lovely to him, he doesn't know he is being spoiled!

stevewool
3rd October 2010, 20:51
understand all you have said there simon, as a family we are expectedto care for all but its so hard and thankgod there are people that can and do cope with people , your dad is in good hands

This strikes a chord with me!!!:NoNo:
I left my life in Japan to return to UK to take care of my mum & dad. Carina was the one who insisted.
As of now I am still taking care of my dad. Mum passed on 2007.
I do feel obliged, and whatever anyone will tell me I can't help myself.
This is despite having the most awful childhhod. I left home at 17. Couldn't take anymore. Just cannot understand how my mum how/why mum put up with it.
Alcohol was more important to my dad than his family.

I understand how you feel and how you also feel obliged to look after your father.

We control his alcohol by watering it down, but when we go to see him it is not like visiting someone, he has little jobs for us to do such as moving things, tidying the room, cleaning his teeth, shaving him etc.

we laugh about it now and are threatening to get T shirts printed with word "SERF" on them!

forester, my dad is now 90. Have several strokes/heart attacks etc. Pacemaker fitted.
Don't know how he made it so far. But he seems like he will go on forever!!!!!!

Languish, Thanks, I've learnt more in my brief time here than in a month of reading books!
