Going to UK next month with a settlement visa... can anyone tell me, what happens when you go through immigration at the airport?? Do you have to fill in more forms and get questioned etc etc etc... Or do you just show the passort and visa page and get told to pass through????:NoNo:

You will be given an arrival form on the plane, and will queue at the 'non british/eu nationals' immigration queue at the airport. They might ask you a few simple questions, like who is your husband, where are you going to live to see if you seem confident enough, but overall it should be very simple.

Depends on what airport in the uk you are landing,some airport got different procedures... but in my case,I landed in the heathrow airport and i just had all my important documents comes in handy,all filed up in one big envelope ...
The immigration officer just asked a little of whats inside my passport and asked me to go to health office in the airport for a chest xray but then i brought with me all my GP's notes and gave a photocopy to the health receptionist and he then let me go.

:iagree: *this IS sometimes necessary, Graham ... depending - as Sars says - upon which UK airport terminal the person arriving, comes through.

thanks for your replies.... so now it would appear you need a chest xray to enter the uk??? why dont they tell you this in the border agency when you apply for a visa??? The last thing you want to do entering a strange country is to be told to go an get an xray..... is this the norm??

You dont need to bring your chest xray if u dont want to as they can do that for you in the airport or once u are registered with ur GP here in the UK and It is stated clearly on the UK border agency website,that they require a TB screening for migrants coming for over 6months and one of the quickest test to know this is to have a chest xray.

What is TB (tuberculosis) and why do we test for TB in some countries?

TB is common in the countries in which we test. It is an airborne infectious disease which can be spread by close contact with other people. The UK wants to encourage greater awareness and treatment of TB in the countries in which we test, as well as protecting people in the UK. Being tested before you travel also means that the arrival procedures in the UK will be much quicker.

Why are you only screening migrants coming for over 6 months?

Generally people must be in prolonged contact with someone with infectious TB in order to catch the disease. Those coming to the UK for more than six months present greater risks to public health than short-term visitors. It would not be practical to screen all short-term visitors for TB.

on the subject of people coming to the uk for over 6 months..... the Philippines is not one of the countries listed ... only the countries listed need to have a chest x-ray for TB.

it is listed, the Philippines is on the revised list, it's just not been updated on the web site thou :doh

MED2 What is the tuberculosis (TB) testing programme?

It is the targeted health screening for tuberculosis (TB) in high-risk countries at the entry clearance stage. This formed part of the UK Government's Five Year Strategy for Asylum and Immigration published in February 2005.

Applicants from participant countries (see below) applying for entry clearance for more than six months are required to produce a certificate issued by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) showing that they are free from infectious TB.

MED2.1 Countries where TB testing programme operates:
Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China, Côte D'Ivoire, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, Laos, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Zimbabwe (July 2009).

manchester i dont think they will ask you for an x-ray at the airport, more likely you'll get a letter weeks later asking you to attend a clinic for an x-ray to be taken

aside from the x-ray reqmt..
one of the important thing whenever you travel is to have the "self-confidence"...
be very confident whenever you answer questions and just stay calm and nice to them..
don't panic if they ask for some papers... gather all the papers in one envelope and put it in your bag.. don't worry, just answer them straightforward and you will be ok :xxgrinning--00xx3:

arrived at birmingham airport...i filled a small paper for basic info like the address u gonna stay etc...then at the immigration they asked me things about my husband and date of marriage...biometric and was told i got a lovely son :) i got x-ray with me from phils but they was never ask for it...nothing to worry.. it feels irritable thoug being asked so many question after a 16 hours from the plane with a pain in the **** son of mine lollll

TO JOEBLOGGS, Been looking at the IOM website and relative stuff regards any form of certificate to prove no T.B. Well that would be rarer than rocking horse pooh..... Certainly no help on where or how to obtain that cert..... So as we have not officially be told at the border agency about the xray. and the fact the Visa has been issued, if questioned at airport will just let them do the xray whenever....
(HOPE YOUR RIGHT ABOUT MANCHESTER AIRPORT)... Last thing anyone needs after 16hrs flying..... thanks for the help .......

my wife landed at manchester int, she didn't get asked about an xray but that was nearly 6 yrs ago, my stepson was not asked that was 4yrs ago, but he got a letter in the post to attend a clinic for an x ray to be taken.( i dont think they have the facilities to do it at Manchester int - i might be wrong but i cant recall anyone been asked - usually at the London airports you might)

what time does your plane land in Manchester, early morning 6am-ish ? i've always landed around that time, and i think i've never seen anyone at the customs desks :icon_lol:

yes it arrives around 6.25am english time......, one other thing.. is it 10,000euros you can legally carry in cash or equivalent.. or is it 10,000 dollars equivalent from philippines to uk... any idea ...

I think you can bring in the equivalent of £10,000 which is the same as leaving the uk
