Well, good old Labour had run inflation up to 25% when Maggie took over, and at that time I was working in the dole office signing on the record numbers of unemployed.

The country needed pulling back from the brink, and love or hate her, that she succeeded in doing.

I'll also admire any leader who puts two fingers up to the great unwashed across the channel. :)

Labour has overseen the transfer of power from a once proud and independent nation to a bunch of (European) corrupt also-rans and peasant farmers who freely pass along their illegal immigrants to us.

- Not to mention the credit and banking crisis which somehow managed to creep up on them and their 'brilliant' chancellor while they were busy feathering their own nests from the purses of the working classes whom they purport to represent.

Next time you see an instruction book thicker than the mobile phone it came with because it has to be printed in 20 languages, or pause to reflect on the multimillionaire status of the 'New Labour' hypocrites who led this country into the biggest national debt in its history....

Funnily enough I was just going to edit to add that I disagreed with a couple of things she did, including YES...selling off of public housing stock...though would they now be filled with asylum seekers, etc ?

I also disagreed with stopping of free school milk.

The unemployment was always going to happen though, that was already in full swing.

I believe cheap Polish coal imports were partly to blame for pit closures, but again some short-sightedness on the part of the govt.

Just a pity the Miners (and I'm from a mining town originally) picked a particularly obnoxious character to speak for them, who eventually didn't actually do their cause much good, just as it may have been.

... :iagree:!

 ... wasn't it Edward Heath who took us into the European Common Market, though, Graham?

Which one? ... Gordon Brown or Alistair Darling? :Erm:

In true Labour style Scargill still managed to get his greedy snout in the trough and had a couple of big houses out of it.

On the subject of greatest ever trough feeders I heard a bit on R4 today Neil Kinnock campaigning on behalf of the socialist candidate for elected Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets - a local 'gor blimey Cockney East Ender Mr Helal Uddin Abbas - interestingly enough Red Ken Livingstone risks being expelled from the Labour Party for supporting his rival, another local chap Mr Lutfur Rahman (George Galloways preferred choice). You have to laugh ................

actually, thats what I was about to thank her for..If it wasnt for good ole Maggi I doubt very much that I would have ever been able to empower myself and family and enter the housing market..Now I am in the position to leave paid up property for my kids to live without further cost to the UK tax payer..As Graham says..Who do you think would be in them now if our right to buy had never been applied?
In regards the sell off...You mean the likes of British rail and the other non competetive jobs worths squandering tax payers money? Dont get me started on that commie Scargil and the striking unions that often left our council houses in darkness in the middle of a freezing winter..
They should make the woman a saint!

Yes Arthur, it was the idiot Ted Heath...every party has them. I voted 'no' (twice).

Labour Chancellors: What's to choose ?

I was telling my boy (he HAS to listen lol!) 3 or 4 years ago that the country was living on borrowed cash that people couldn't afford to pay back, all dependent on property values and it would soon blow up in our faces.

Of course I'm not a clever Chancellor.

:icon_lol: well i'm sure on the 5th of nov scargill and thatcher will both be on the bon-fire around the country

fred as for social housing, camerons new idea, probably unworkable, that new tenants no longer have the 'right' to a council house for life, 'somebody, somewhere' will decide that you have enough money to buy your own place (or maybe rent privately ?)

well as dedworth has already posted, some councils are no longer reserving council houses for asylum seekers, well i would have hope any council houses would go to  local brits, who would be first in the queue, but its nearly 3 months now and i've still no answer about my app for a council house :laugher:

Sad to say, it's all come too late though hasn't it.

The rich (including MPs of all persuasions) have stashed their loot away.... far from the tax man, and there are an estimated half million anonymous 'asylum seekers' and assorted illegals wandering the country.

Now after 40 odd years of paying taxes I'm told I'm going to have to retire later and pay twice as much towards my son's university education.

If I'd sat on my aRs all my life and sired 10 illegitimate kids I'd be laughing.

I don't know of many other countries where being a useless bum is so highly rewarded.
