If an armed man in the same circumstances had shot someone and it was then discovered that an armed guard had been present but had done nothing the head lines would have criticized him.

I arrested a man who, on good information I believed was in possession of a .38 hand gun. I was armed at the time. The 'gun' turned out to be a very good replica weapon. When I took possession of it, it looked and felt very real. Had the circumstances been slightly different I may well have shot him. If he had pointed it at me I would, almost certainly, have shot him, and as police are trained to stop a person in those circumstances (that in reality means they shoot to kill every time) I would quite possibly have killed him. Headlines would have been:- "Police kill man 'armed' with toy gun." Had it been real, they may have read:- "Copper shot dead''

It makes sense not to appear to be a threat to others. An adult carrying what appears to be a weapon, whilst appearing to be a lawbreaker (that was the part the actor was playing, I guess he was convincing) clearly puts one at risk.

Nothing is quite as simple as many at first glance may believe.

Before the incident, the guard borrowed a friend's illegal .357 firearm and went to the police station -- where he was informed that filming was taking place. The watchman, accompanied by a police officer, then made his way to the film set hoping to help secure the area.

Police Chief Relado said, "I don't know why he still accosted them."

Cuizon has refused to give up the name of the friend who loaned him the homemade .357 and remains in jail.

On Tuesday, the guard will be formally charged with homicide and possession of a firearm.

The shooting took place in the Parian district of Cebu, where criminals often use motorcycles to escape law enforcement.

The two quoted appear 'almost' to be reporting different occurrences.

Maybe we can have a few trigger happy armed watchmen on the sets of dumbed down TV shows like Big Brother, X Factor, I'm a Celebrity etc - that would bring a new dimension to "Reality TV"
