In the UK, you must pay UK minimum wage, which 5.93 pounds per hour for someone over 22 years old. If you accomodate the employee, you can deduct 32.27 per week for that.
Domestic Help are exempt from the maximum working hours regulations, but you still have to pay for all hours worked.
If you have employed a domestic help abroad for more then one year, you may bring them to the UK. The first year that they are in the UK, they are exempt from the UK minimum wage.

OK in your situation, for every hour you work, you must receive 5.93 per hour (if your over 22). You should be given a full contract, detailing your hours of work, and the time that you should be given off. You are entitled to your own bedroom if you reside with your employer.

You can apply for any job you want, provided your visa allows working.
The legal minimum wage stated by RickyR of £5.93 per hour is the main rate for workers aged 21 and over.
This is gross pay per hour BEFORE any deductions. (TAX, NI etc)
Working in a care home often entails shift working.
There is also a requirement for a minimum ratio of 50% trained members of care staff
(NVQ level 2 or equivalent)
Any agency staff working in the home are included in the 50% ratio.

It's not essential to have NVQ, just information so that you know the regulations.
A care home must have 50% of it's staff with NVQ2 min or equivalent.
