Perhaps a strange question, but I have always wanted to try crocodile meat. I'm going to Palawan in January and I know it is home to many crocodiles. Just wondering if it's on the menu in Palawan? I'm not particularly squeamish and am happy to try any reptilian meat, after all it's only a fish with legs:icon_lol:

I've not had crocodile meat in Philippines, but have had it in South Africa.
It's quite juicy and tender, but more firm than chicken when you bite it.
It's a white meat with a mild neutral flavour. I know it's a bit of a cliche, but really if someone would tell it was chicken, you wouldn't question it.
You can tell it comes from the water though not the land.
Well worth the experience :xxgrinning--00xx3:
It's nothing like reptile (as in lizard) nothing at all.
I once had Iguana and it tasted like .... well lizard (horrible) :yikes::yikes:

The place I went to prepares and cooks it at the table.
It's a game resto. i also had Zebra, Springbok and Kudu steaks (not all at the same time)

I'd love to try snake, where was the restaurant Arthur. I know it's a popular dish in Taiwan, China and Vietnam but didn't realise they ate it in the Phil's too
Edit, just read your later post Arthur

I'd happily try it in a restaurant, but not so sure I'd want to eat something a local villager has cooked up on a calor gas/camping stove. Not sure why that is? After all if it's cooked it's cooked, right?

I had Alligator nuggets on holiday in Florida before, at a Gatorland theme park. It wasnt horrible, but the meat was very chewy almost slightly rubbery, but yes they tasted a bit like chicken! lol:icon_lol:

Alligator nuggets? ... reminds me of the :irish:man living in the Protestant area of Belfast.
He kept an alligator in his back yard as a pet. And one evening, the reptile accompanied him to the local pub ... wherupon he walked up to the bartender and asked the fellow if he served Catholics ... :omg:
... Och "t'be shure, Paddy ... t'be shure", replied the barman
"Roightiho", said Paddy "Oi'll have a Guiness :party-smiley-012: for meself ... an' a Catholic for me :wizardkl: alligator!"
:icon_sorry: ... should anyone deem this :joke: to be in bad "taste" - or in any way offensive to his/her religious persuasions - please let me know, and I shall remove it forthwith.

The odds of being offered a palawan croc on your plate are slim to nil,its on the CITES list and is endangered as sin, even sea turtle eggs which I used to see almost daily in certain market-places arent as common as they used to be,but burmese python and halo(monitor lizard are eaten often here, had both too often to count)also been out in the rice paddies at night frogging, fried insects truthfully taste of the oil they are fried in,at least cockroaches and spiders do,also crickets, all carapace and chitin,no taste to speak of,balut isnt so bad, isnt so good either mind you.

In the interests of research I went out today and ate crocodile steak ;) I will post pics tomorrow when I can resize them, even had ostrich BBQ for an appetiser :) I actually preferred the ostrich, the croc was quite chewy, not a palawan croc, looks like a nile croc or something, went to a breeding establishment, they also sold fried ostrich eggs,sunnyside-up for 500 pesos an egg :icon_lol:
