yna,

Don't feel bad. Don't feel responsible. This is not real.
This is not a 'friend' , in my opinion, this is a scammer. It's better you did not even reply.
Personally, I suggest you do nothing and do not continue any further contact.

Best to ignore it, it's hard for you we know, but it dosen't sound right.
Stick here with the forum, where you can have good friends.

Get well soon. (from your other thread) :)

have you ever met the guy ?

yna

I have asked this before, but how did they want you to pay?
Where did they want you to pay? (means which bank account name)

Where is this person being held? What is the official name of the detention centre?
If you have this info you will be able to discover the official telephone number or contact details for verification.

Just trying to help you figure this out so you can feel better.
I still say this is a scam, so be careful.

Was he born and raised in the UK ?

If you're quoting his email accurately, he certainly doesn't write like a native English speaker...more like a foreigner.

Get well soon, have a great New Year and tell this parasite to get lost.

If you want to get to the bottom of this, do as Terpe suggested above, play along with the guy and obtain full details of the place he's supposedly incarcerated in, with phone number, etc.

yna,

I just googled about currency restriction into Malaysia.
This it what I found:-

There is no restriction on the amount of foreign currency notes and traveler's cheques
brought into Malaysia by resident and a non-resident, except a few cases which are stated below in the table.

From the table of exceptions:-
No restrictions, excluding banknotes of India, Indonesia up to the amount of INR 270 and IDR 3,000

Here is the source:-
http://www.malaysiatravel.org.uk/currency.html

I also checked a couple of other sites and the same information is there.

Please check yourself also.

Now please stop worrying.
Get yourself better from your fever .
Enjoy your New Year Celebrations.
Don't contact him again.

Take care and God Bless

Hi YNA, welcome to the Forum and I am so sorry to hear of your predicament. Like the others have said, this guy doesn't write English properly so there is every likelihood that he isn't a Brit and may well be attempting to scam you.

If you are still worried, feel unsure and can't wash your hands of him, for your own peace of mind the very best that you could be expected to do is to report his predicament to the British Consular Office in Kuala Lumpur. If he is a British National in distress and he really has been detained, I believe that the British Embassy would have been notified by the authorities and therefore they will have a record of him.

I have been in touch with the Consular office myself this year and they are very helpful. Contact details are as follows:-

Kelvin Joseph |Consular Officer | British High Commission, 185 Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia * email: Kelvin.Joseph@fco.gov.uk ( telephone: +603 2170 2345 | fax: +603 21702390 |) ftn: 8402 2345 | website: http://ukinmalaysia.fco.gov.uk
