That's miserable when you have a back problem.
We always bring some 'magic potions' from Phils. Maybe your Emma has some.
We have Efficascent Oil, PAU Liniment and Tiger Balm (White). All great for aches and pains, stiff necks and bad backs etc. Just massage in.

Maybe Tiger Balm can be found in Boots.

Anyway, best just lay down, keep warm and try to relax:D

Did Emma like the dinner you cooked?

Purely a tentative suggestion, Steve  ... but I wonder if there's any slim chance that Emma might've brought any small bottles of Extra-Strength METHYL SALICYLATE CAMPHOR + MENTHOL Efficascent Oil over with her from the Phils. It's apparently very soothing for massage ... but I'm not sure if it is sold in the UK. :NoNo: Worth checking out at Boots ... and/or other High Street pharmacies. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I have used something similar in the past but the smell does linger, the only thing that kills it is dried fish:doh

I suffer with constant back and hip pain Steve and the only thing that hits my spot you need to see your doctor for. I take Zydol/Tramadol , the only thing is it does leave you very light headed and feeling like i`m high. Sometimes not a bad thing though.:)

well thanks for all the advice , emma did massage my back and a great job she did too, and yes she did enjoy what i cooked for here Ian, bad back still here but its ok once i have started to move around , why do us men think that taking a tablet or rubbing something on our backs will improve us with in hours , not days :doh

I can sympathise Steve, and sorry for the late response.
You might not be surprised to know that nearly 3/4 people do experience back pain ( and 2/3 neck pain) at some time in their lives. It's most common between 35 and 55, and less than 1/10 go on to become chronic (lasting over 12 weeks). In most cases it's "non-specific" - brought on by twisting, heavy physical work, prolonged static postures like sitting at the computer, or stress and anxiety. Less than 1/20 have a physical cause like prolapsed disc, fracture, or arthritis.
Opioid painkillers such as Tramadol, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, are beneficial for severe pain. Massage, or various other "treatments" suggested already may help possibly because they also help relaxation, which is so important. Prolonged bed rest, or traction, is not recommended. Lumbar supports, spinal manipulation and acupuncture, are of uncertain benefit. Moderate exercise is encouraged as soon as possible.

hi Alan well all you say is correct, i have taken some tablets and of course emma has those magic hands, getting better today and yes it was a twist that caused it

If you're prepared to give acupuncture a go I used this guy, who is local to you, when I had a severely bad back a few years ago. He was recommended to me by several people I worked with in Derby at that time. My own GP was useless but this chap cured me in 3 sessions.
