After watching a program the other day I thought I'd mention one of the problems of eating raw fish in Asia.
Fish all over the world contain parasites. For those of you who fish, take a good look at its insides, and in the meat, you'll often find parasites. I've seen plenty of them in my years of sea fishing, but cooking or freezing kills them, then they just become protein.
As Westerners aren't used to Asian parasites, our immune systems can kick in, and you'll find a good number of folk who eat raw or undercooked area when out there get stomach problems of one sort or another, and at worse, the parasite manage to survive your stomach and breed.
This article covers most of them http://www.suite101.com/content/human-parasites-in-raw-fish-a138279

Ive been eating Kinilaw for years...Never had a problem. Pretty sure the vinegar and chilli kills the germs.
I think the Japs freeze their fish over night and I dont hear of them keeling over due to these parasites?

It depends on your immune system. What can kill one person, may not effect another.
Vinegar and chilli DO NOT kill parasites. They can live in acidic stomachs of fish, dolphins, etc. If it has been frozen, it is OK to eat as long as it was frozen only a few hours after being caught.
Although you're unlikely to end up with a living fish parasite in your body, having them pass through your body can still make you ill and is just something to think of when choosing what to eat in a far away country.

They are not usually an issue in the West as we cook our seafood :)

Farmed salmon is a breeding ground for parasites http://www.puresalmon.org/diseases.html , although they have been blamed for infecting wild salmon, this has recently been proven to be false.

Warning: Human Parasites in Raw Fish
and Many fish like Tuna contains high levels of Mercury and Lead..thats why too much fish is also dangerous.
Anyway,I like my fish well cooked (fried/grilled)...sad,I seldom eat fish here in the UK now as all is either frozen or laid in ice:NoNo:...
