ILR = Indefinite Leave to Remain

Means now free to stay indefinitely in UK and completely free of all immigration restrictions.
Next step (if wanted) would be Naturalisation (ie become British Citizen)

We actually had a friend who really did that, despite explaining it all. Crazy, no idea what happened in the end. It's a funny old world.

stayed out of the uk for more than 2yrs terpe? well my stepson went back to the phils to go to uni, we wanted to get him back here b4 the 2yrs was up, so he wouldn't lose his ILR, i said to the misses to get him to check when he left the uk in his passport, she told me the date, i said to her to double check, she said she did, and so we got him back here, only for him to get stopped at the airport by immigration, he was a few days over the 2yrs :doh:crazy: anyway they black marked his passport, told him not to do it again but because it was only a few days past the 2yrs they let him in.

a warning to all :doh

Yes Joe, we helped this lady through some very tricky issues. Her husband was in the army and it seemed he didn't give a ...... about her or her daughter.
She was very very lucky to be granted ILR, within 1 week she had gone saying she needed to take care of her internet cafe business, but would be back within 2 years.

That was the last we heard of her. I can say it was a lesson in friendships anyways.
