Legal adviser is jailed over immigration fraud

An immigration advisor has been jailed for 6 years for helping submit fraudulent visa applications, following an investigation by the UK Border Agency's West London immigration crime team.

Through his Uxbridge-based practice Immigration Experts UK Ltd, 34-year-old Indian national Harpreet Dhall created false documents and employment histories for clients who were applying for extensions to their visas, to make it look as if they were in highly skilled or well-paid jobs.

In some cases, he would also arrange for regular payments to be made into their bank accounts to make it look like they had regular salaries.

It is thought he would charge around £5,000 for his services and had assisted around 70 clients. It is believed that Dhall made around £400,000 through his criminal activity.

Following a hearing at Harrow Crown Court, Dhall - who admitted assisting unlawful immigration - was sentenced to 6 years in prison. He will also face deportation after serving his sentence.

Four of Dhall's clients admitted obtaining leave to remain in the UK by deception, and were each sentenced to between 6 and 10 months in prison.
