Always best when reinstalling after formatting to have
OS on partition C:
Programs on partition D:
Docs/Pics on partition E:

it's so easy to partition your hard drive and if your OS fails all you need to do is reinstall OS - your programs on D: and Docs/Pics on E: will not be affected or need reinstalling (generally) - it's only a concern if your HD fails....

Enjoy ur refreshed and probably speedy computer ;)

There are still plenty of programs that write vast amounts of information about themselves into the registry and that also install components in the sub folders of the Windows folder, all the registry information and and specialised components are lost when you wipe the OS partition, so generally you will still need to reinstall anything other than the simplest standalone executables.

However it is good general advice to adopt a strategy like this, it is also worth recommending a large OS partition; on a 500 GB disk I would allocate 80-100GB for the OS on a Windows 7 installation but then again I have particularly heavy space requirements on my systems.

I badly need to reformat my pc. It's been 3 weeks now that I've been looking for a decent XP installer but those lent to me by friends wont work or I need a licence key. Sigh!:NoNo: My pc often freezes and all messengers are down. I tried reinstalling but pc wont let me. Sometimes I can access FB chat but most of the time I can't. I wonder though why it seems for tonight access to this forum is the only good site working for my pc.

I already have kerosene on hand. Does anyone have a lighter please? :cwm23::smileybigangry::dumbputer::CompBuster::cuss:

Can't believe you're having problems with a Philippines-sourced Windows disc. :icon_lol:

I backup everything to an extra hard-drive, and also to an external one.
The latter has a programme called Mojopac on it, which allows transfer of information in both directions. (Haven't a clue what that means really...but sounded useful when I downloaded it).

I also have 2 operating systems installed.

My HD is well well overdue for a reformat, but just can't bring myself to do it in case I screw it up.

A lot of computer shops in the Philippines sells disc for re-installing but you need to know what XP you got in your pc..is it Home edition or professional??
