I'd try all the usual suspects Steve -
Philippine Airlines
Cebu Pacific
Garuda Indonesia
Zest Air
Air Asia Philippines
Air Phil Express
...etc
If you put the route into Skyscanner, it will tell you who actually flies to Denpasar (Bali), you might find the low cost carriers only fly to Jakarta and you'll need to get a connection from there.

thanks ian i knew you would answer this one, tried skyscanner they said i have to fly vi singapore then a 4 hour stopover no good for me
Steve, there used to be some good flights via Tokyo with not bad prices.
Bad news is I haven't checked availability of prices for over 5 years.
I previously used Japan Air Lines
Maybe worth 15 mins research, they were darn good flights.

You're probably going to struggle with a direct flight Steve, and may have to use another city as a hub. Personally, I'd look at Garuda Indonesia first, as it will probably be the shortest route via Jakarta.

Garuda definitely fly from Jakarta to Bali and have some good promo deals on now:
http://www.garuda-indonesia.com/pages/special-fares/special-fares/act/booking/from/CGK/to/ALL
Don't be put off by the prices, there are about 14000 IDR's to the pound http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business/market_data/currency/default.stm
It might be worth searching the other airlines for a cheap deal from Manila to Jakarta. If it were me, I would try and have a few days stop over in Jakarta to break the trip up. It's somewhere I haven't been to yet, but on my list of places to visit in Asia.
PAL fly from Manila to Jakarta http://www.philippineairlines.com/flights/route_map/route_map.jsp and so do Cebu Pacific http://www.cebupacificair.com/ http://www.cebupacificair.com/flights-and-fares/newroute/ceb-routemap.html
Garuda don't fly to/from Manila

if it is of any interest to some... most major air lines will discount ur fair if u are travelling due to a sickness or tragedy... proof is needed upon ur return .. if u return :)
