I have several years left before I am 50 so I still have time to do a few more things, got a trial microlight lesson booked in 2 weeks time,I always wanted a microlight and a decent one can be picked up for 20 k so who knows :)
Tibet/Nepal
Both great places,I prefer Nepal, went into Tibet from Xinjiang back around 1990'ish,still got my alien travel permit as tibet was closed to foreigners back then but I went anyway as you were still able to watch the sky burials just outside Lhasa,I also met the Dali Lama and shook his hand in India's Dharamasala(little tibet) I went with a spiritual hippy type girl who was studying meditation in Bod Ghaya,I wasnt interested in meetimg the Dali Lama,I was more interested in getting inside her knickers to my eternal shame :icon_lol: Happy days ;)

I did a microlight lesson about 20 years ago, it was a great experience. Much better than flying a Cessna because you get a real feeling of being outside. They're pretty safe too, if the engine runs out of fuel or stops, you just glide back down to terra firma.
I've got another 6 and a bit years till I'm 50 and have done a lot of the things I wanted to do before I was 50. I've always believed in doing things instead of just dreaming about them, the only excuse that counts is lack of money. I don't want to be on my death bed thinking to myself, I wish I had done that or done this.
In my earlier years a lot of my goals centred around cars and travel, I've done cars to death now and have owned a couple of full blown Italian supercars, I'm not really bothered about that anymore. Travel is my main obsession and some of the more unusual things I want to do are along the following lines:
Travelling the entire length of Eurasia overland
Travelling the Pan Pacific Highway from Tierra Del Fuego to Alaska
Visiting some of the 10 tallest buildings in the world (including, the Burj Tower, Taipai 101, Petronas Tower....etc) Fortunately I did the WTC in 1993
The only continent I have never visited and have absolutely no desire to visit is Africa.
My ultimate goal is to have set foot in at least 100 different countries by the time I'm 65.

Looking for a personal mantra as you prepare to tee off down life's back nine? How about this one: Habits kill. By now, you may have seen more of other parts of the world than you've actually seen of your own hometown because you've been a good little Pythagorean and mastered the straight line between A and B and never got beyond point C.
But now is the time to get lost, at least metaphorically. Take that road you've never taken. Go to work by bus instead of train. Or get really radical, and walk somewhere. Mix it up. And be sure not to plan too much. It takes all the fun out of it.:icon_lol::omg::D

Originally, yes.
My brother speaks fluent Farsi, and has contacts in Asia Minor and Pakistan, which might have helped.
Even if it becomes too much on the bike, I could buy an old car and continue on in that way. :)
I have read so many incredible stories and internet blogs, it has become a 'must do'.

I actually did that, from John O'Groats to Lands End.
I was 19 years old and did it with a team of 6 other apprentices from my old company.
We raised over £3000 between use. Not much these days, but then it was a huge amount and made 2nd page on the local newspaper.
Most of our sponsors paid per the completion rather than per mile. Lucky for them as we walked (and staggered) over 1500 miles. No idea how we got it so wrong!!!
Quite a bit more more than other teams.
But, hey the company paid us our wages for the whole trip (well almost), we missed some wages since we took much longer agreed.
We did this expedition during what was then called "factory fortnight", which was the annual factory shutdown. We were allowed 1 month to do it and got full holiday pay for the whole 4 weeks. Well actually our team took just over 6.5 weeks in total, so the company woulod not pay for 2.5 weeks. We didn't worry or care about that one little bit.
It was without doubt one of my lifetime treasured wonderful experiences and such a heartwarming memory.
All the proceeds went to a local childrens home.
I must look out the official 'start' photo and upload. Gosh! so many years ago now.
Good job I was so young. I wonder how long it would take me now to walk that distance.
Sorry for the long post all. Happy memories!

hi there Terpe, never really did a long distance trail other than the west highland way about 90 miles over three days so will be a massive challenge but the idea is still growing and I am now looking at the routes (anything form 874 to 1200 depending on how off road you go) and the timing.
I imagine I can take up a month away from work as I tend to contract these days and could just time it to coincide with finishing one and choosing not to start the next one. I imagaine my wife driving a motor home as support and the kids would see large parts of my Scottish homeland and of the rest of the UK.
To achieve this ditance in 30 days would rrequire around 35 miles a day with a rest day every week. I am sure I could consistently achieve 3 miles an hour so need 12 hours of walking every day .. hmmmm perhaps three stints of 4 hours with 30 minute breaks 13.5 hours.. factoring in blisters, tendon pain, other injuries perhaps this is ambitious. might need a bit longer.
I will let you all know when I firm up the plan..... anyone fancy joining LOL
