My son just arrived here in UK January this year..I was trying to put him in one of our local college..after a few weeks they came back to me and say's he can't go College due to his visa status? His on settlement visa..and they have said ..because it say's no recourse to public funds!! Is it because he is not a minor? Because I have friends that they have brought their kids here in Uk from Philippines and now studying here...(minors) Please help!!!

i think that could be his problem, if i remember correctly he needs to have ILR for at least 1yr as he's not a minor (over 18), and he would have to pay international fees until he has has ilr at least 1yr..

... just as silly as british-born children having to pay £9,000 per annum for a University education.

My wife's mother had the first child (of 9) at the age of 17 years. Her father was 21 years older than her mother. Both parents were Filipino's.
So a number of often discussed issues there. :)

Sorry for the off-topic posting macky

I'm assuming that your son has a UK passport.
If that's the case, if he signs on as unemployed, he'll get the JobSeekers Allowance.
If he's in receipt of JA, I'm sure he can attend a local college for free (or at the very least, a greatly reduced rate).
