My wife took her listening and speaking test yesterday. She scored 275 points. The school said she has to come back on the 21st of July to take a reading and writing test..but reading these posts on the forum only a speaking and listening test is required for the spouse visa!! I am not worried if my wife take another test if its required for ukba. But would like to clarify this in detail if its actually a requirement for the visa or not. Could someone please advise????

Hi sheldon,

The UKBA site states that,
"In the test, you will need to demonstrate a basic command of English (speaking and listening) at level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference Someone assessed at level A1 can understand and use simple, everyday expressions and very basic phrases.
You will not need to demonstrate your reading and writing skills. The minimum standard that you must meet is in speaking and listening at level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. "

Just be sure that the test and provider is on the UKBA approved list:-

Hope it helps

In my case, I took all these four (speaking and listening, reading and writing) in order to get the certificate. That was just 3 months
ago..

Probably because most test centres spread the core tests that way, to ensure that all four are taken as part of their offering.
There's no problem. Just to remind all that only Speaking and Listening is required by UKBA.
If, for example, scores were not good enough for Writing and Reading that would not impact any Visa application, provided Speaking and Listening were graded at the required A1 level.

Thanks for that. but i think members should be aware that to take the reading and writing it costs another 4900 when you dont really need it. The immigration wont thank you for taking it. just more money we are forking out for nothing....

:) Congratulations & well done to your wife ... and good luck to her with the next stage(s). :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I don't have the slightest clue about these new-fangled tests, I'm afraid ... NOR, for that matter, agree with the "need" for them :nono-1-1: ... but glad to see others have been able to advise.

Thanks my friend, your advice is always very usefull. My wife score 185 in listening and 95 in reading. The school is a little bit of a con as they mix the subjects up forcing you to pay more. If they did a speaking and listening test that would complete the test, but they dont. one week they do a listening and reading test. then next time a speaking and writing. the writing and reading is not needed. so now i have to pay another 4200p for two subjects that i dont need. This is just another way of bleeding us dry. when its very expensive to organise visas for our wives. I am reporting this to a friend of mine who is a consulate at the embassy in manila. Maybe to no avail but i am going to report it anyway. what a rip oFF!!!!!!
