He puts the boot into the BBC socialist propaganda mouthpiece and supports the long-standing claim that they are a London-centric, Left-leaning bias which alienates large sections of the public.

Actually when the Socialists got in in 1997 Honk Kong was a month or so away from being handed back to the Chinks - Major gave him the job. Blair made him a life peer - might have been something to do with Blair converting to Catholicism and wanting to keep in with the Pope

Are there any staff other than ethnic minorities and homosexuals employed at the Beeb ?..having to think here. :Erm:

Ah ... ... you mean like when the newscaster is actually of Pakistani origins, and the correspondent reporting from war zones in that part of the world is British?

Aye ... I've noticed! :)

Admittedly ... a fair few of the show presenters and comperes these days do come across as being a bit "iffy" ... :cwm24:

I've noticed that no matter what a BBC newscasters ethinic origin they all have same generic BBC accent. When I was in Brunei and Malaysia a couple of months ago watching the English language local TV news, the newscasters there all had a generic BBC 'British' accent. They'd obviously all studied/been trained at the BBC.
Whatever we say about the BBC, it is still one of the most highly respected TV organisations on the planet. the left wing bias does annoy me sometimes, but I remain a fan of the BBC and am proud of it. Whenever I'm abroad, I always watch BBC World if it is available:xxgrinning--00xx3:
TBH, I don't care what sex, ethnic origin or sexuality the BBC newscaster is, as long as they are inteligible. I'm more interested in the news rather than the mouthpiece.

I'm proud of it too.

I'd be even prouder if the presenter represented an example of the majority indigenous population.

World Service Radio is even worse, now that they've decided upon this diversity of accents nonsense.

Try listening to the shipping forecast one night, with the West Indian guy . God knows what the the poor sailors make of it, while trying to listen in a force 9 gale. :NoNo:

The BBC's impartiality and standards have drastically declined over the last 20 years or so. Patten needs to wield the axe and get shot of the Trough Feeders, Lefties, Diversity/Equality Directors and Politically Correct - all of whom would find it very hard to obtain employment in the real world (ie private sector). This should be followed by a spending review focusing on personalities and presenters obscene salaries. The BBC (and ITV etc) need to realise that it doesn't have to be held to ransom by these people as the majority wouldn't be able to get a job outside of the UK Broadcasting Industry.

They should stick to the Oxbridge accent, at least everyone can understand that. It might not be representative of the regional accents the rest of us have, but at least it makes us sound sophisticated to the rest of the world:D

:) "BBC English" ... as it was termed back in the 1950s when this accent seemed to be ubiquitous among [*mainly] male radio announcers and sports commentators alike.

That's how the rest of the world think we sound, or like Sean Connery's James Bond. Whenever I'm abroad, very few people guess I'm British on the first attempt. They always guess Australian or Irish first:icon_lol: ...and I don't even think I've got an accent, OK maybe a touch of A1 northbound to Peterborough

:icon_lol::icon_lol: That is so funny Graham, but also reassuring, because I also listen to the Shipping Forecast ( after the "Sailing By" theme music at about 12.45 am ) - it helps me get to sleep ( although I can imagine better ways ! ):icon_lol:.

I couldn't agree more:xxgrinning--00xx3: I make sure I teach my kids how to pronounce words properly and to be polite all of the time. I can't stand the "urban" language that todays youth use, It doesn't sound right when white middle class kids start using a type of inner city pattois:NoNo:

Good article here

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/8626866/Lord-Patten-has-done-the-impossible-by-making-me-warm-to-the-BBC.html

It’s great to have him there, speaking up for us. You do wonder, though, given the shock that greeted Lord Patten’s speech, what message his predecessors were giving the BBC. “You should pay the director general more, really. And remember: immigration and the EU are always to be treated as good things, in every programme we make. Always describe non Left-wing guests as 'Right-wing’, but use 'expert’ for Left-wing ones…” That sort of thing?
