Yep, Its like they have cloned milton keynes and implanted it every where, Most towns are virtually identical now with the main shops and outta town shopping areas, Still pepole vote with thier wallets and if there wasnt money to be made they wouldnt be there, Its making me all emotional now, think i will go and by some flowers to cheer myself up and have alittle cry..! !:bigcry:

Know what you mean, Steve  ... we have two huge Tesco 'Extra' Stores [one of them open 24 hrs!] at opposite ends of the town - plus a Tesco Metro in Perth Town Centre.

Still ... :anerikke: ... I suppose I ought to be thankful that the open all hours store is located close to where WE live!

Shame about that  ... we've 2 'Farmfoods' branches ... and used to have an *'Iceland' as well ... but *it's long gone and been replaced by a third Lloyds Pharmacy.

:yeahthat: ... talking of "goats" #3 ... when I was a kid  ... the only shops you ever saw open for business on Sundays, were Newsagents (and only during the forenoon ... to buy your 'Sunday Post') and Italian-owned cafe's selling their delicious ice cream.:foudamour: Changed days!! :doh

So ... :anerikke: ... basically, back then - unless you were the type of person who liked a "long lie" :NEW5: on Sunday mornings - your most likely form of "entertainment" was to go to Church and watch the minister/vicar banging on his pulpit :23_116_6[1]: as he harangued the congregation with his weekly sermon ...

30th July 2011, 14:42
... and thence back home, suitably chastised ;) ... perchance to swap the "glad rags" for your more comfortable old togs, partake of Sunday Lunch ... and settle down to *reading the 'News of The World' - *alas no longer possible! :bigcry: - as you listened to 'Two-Way' Family Favourites' on BBC Radio's 'Light Programme'.

In York (100,000 pop.) we have TWO large Tescos....one close to my home, an Asda, a Morrisons and two Sainburys. That's apart from the Tesco Expresses.
Oh, and two M & S.
Glad I hate shopping.

I guess the profusion of Tesco's is because they are a caring company and don't want people to travel long distances to be ripped off

There's five Tesco's within a 5 minute drive from mine, 2 big stores and 3 of the small ones. None of which I've been in since before Xmas!

I always shop at Tesco (just been) because it is just up the road, and I'm lazy.
It is getting harder and harder to stay within my £30 a week food budget for me and my boy though. :cwm3:

Plus, walking helps to supress hunger and that extra mile will do wonders for maintaining bodily flexibility. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

Walk ? :yikes:
My local Pakshop is only an off-licence. :Erm:
We do have a Farmfoods even closer than Tesco, but of course they don't have the variety of marked down past its sell by date stuff, which is my mainstay. :)
I refuse to pay more than £1.50 for ANY item. :D

DO YOU MIND ? :yikes:
Yorkshireman ! :D
Ok, I'll admit to having spent £35 this week....not much on the bargains shelf. :bigcry:
Nowt wasted in my house, but we do eat an awful lot of cheap spuds it seems, and we eat very little ready-prepared food, 90% all home-cooked to my own recipes. :)

I've got huge 24 hour Asda's, Tesco's and Sainsbury's within 5 minutes of my house. It doesn't matter what time of day or night I go, they are always busy. I do find Asda to be cheaper than the other two though. There's also an Aldi in the next village. A few years ago I would never have shopped at Aldi (me being a snob:doh), but my opinion has changed and I frequently shop there as it is convenient, the food is good quality despite the stereotypical negative comments people used to make about Aldi (if it's good enough for our German neighbours, it's good enough for us:xxgrinning--00xx3:). Something else I've noticed about my local Aldi is that their car park is usually full of brand new BMW's, Audi's, Mercs, Jags and Range Rover's which is not the type of car those who've never been would associate with a typical Aldi shopper. Time to forget those stereotypes and save a few quid:xxgrinning--00xx3:

tesco lotus out there is a big brand and its a bit strange to see tesco tins on the shelves out there but for many expats a nice bit of home!!
quite funny cos the locals all called it lotus and we all called it tescos
mind you i dont think they have got packs of frogs in the tescos freezers here yet:Erm:
