if we acquire english passport(after spouse visa/ilr )after living in the UK FOR THE QUALIFYING period but still holding philippine passport is it worthy not to renew and just give up your citizenship being filipino?..
or much easiest to go home/or visit in philippines using solely the english passport??:Erm:
btw not renewing philippine passport when it expires does it means you are giving up your citizenship being Filipino:cwm24: which i really dont like the idea of it..personally :D:Wave:
any advice:Wave:
thank you:)

Moy,
This is both my personal opinion and my strong advice to you.
When the time comes that you are able to apply for British Citizenship DO IT.
You will be able to apply for British passport which offers unbeatable opportunities for unrestricted travel (as a minimum).
Now once you have taken up British Citizenship then "technically" you have given up your Philippine Citizen status. Plenty of people will tell you not to say anything, just continue with your Phils passport and don't mention British. That's all OK to a point BUT totally unlawful and will eventually come to bite you in the a**e big time.
Philippine nationality law is now very nice for you. Just take a nice trip to London, take time out of your busy London shopping/tourist time to attend the very brief Philippine Citizenship Oath taking ceremony and voilą you are a Citizen of both Philippines and UK
One of those select few who have legal dual nationality.
The very BEST of BOTH worlds so to speak. What a treasure to hold.
Lucky you (but only if you take the time to do it) with NOTHING to lose and Everything to gain.

:Hellooo:moy,
yes, if we don't renew our phil passport that means we give it up.
In my opinion...one may have dual citizenship. in doing so......
u may use phil passport when u enter phils. especially if u intend to stay longer than 3 weeks.
u may use brit passport wnen u fly out phils...if u use phil passport, we have to pay ofw travel tax that cost Php 1,620-P1,650 ( don't know how much it cost now).
bonus :u enjoy the benefits of the 2.
one example. of what's going on now like further riots in london, birmingham & other areas in midlands, if u have disturbances experiences or affected by this problems we may contact the Phil embassy in london for protection.
likewise if ur in Pinas & we have serious problem of anything, we ask protection from the brit embassy in manila.
U may do the same w/ ur kids/ hubby:Wave:
don't stress yourself. u may contact Philippine Embassy about this matter. for future use, u may keep this :

Help for dual nationals
If you're a dual national, the help you can get from a British consul depends on what passport you're travelling on and where you're travelling.
If you're travelling:
- on your British passport in a third country (of which you are not a national), the British consul can offer you full support
- on the passport of your other nationality, you should normally go to that state's embassy, high commission or consulate
- in the state of your other nationality, the British consul would not usually become involved, unless there was a special
humanitarian reason to do so.
