I am happy but sad as well. I’ve never been away from my family. Why is it always difficult to leave?:bigcry: I am leaving for UK in 15 days, just the thought of it makes my heart crash into pieces..full of mixed emotions.

Is there any Filipina out there living somewhere near Bromley London....? I need your advise:Help1: please my dear Pinay mentors, how will I cope up with homesickness... sorry po this is going to be my PERS TIME to UK..:Erm::Erm::Erm::NoNo:

it's always difficult leaving your loved ones..i was like that when i went to Singapore for work..i think i was crying for a month! :omg: it's the sense of comfort whenever they're around that i missed..i even missed my mom's nags! :D But we all know we can't always stay at home and we'll leave our parent's house, whether just to another town or country..just always have communication with your family when you are in the UK already..always have a chat with them whether thru skype, email, Facebook or yahoo..and keep yourself busy too to take your mind off the homesickness..i'm sure you'd be able to meet new friends too..and ask your fiance/hubby to take you to places..:)

I identify with what you are thinking as my wife (providing she gets her visa) will also be away from her family for the first time at the age of 24. And she has expressed the same apprehension as you. I am making it a priority that she has a good internet link, here, with her family at home and I am encouraging her to keep contact with her close relatives on a daily basis. I am also establishing contact with fellow pinoys on the Isle of Man and investigating the possibility of pinoy tv, all in an effort to help her not to get too homesick.

It will start to get a little cooler now so he can take you shopping for some warmer clothes hehhehehe

Yes. I have it planned for my wife to buy a nice warm jacket as a priority so we hope to go the mall (Trafford Centre) when she steps of the plane in Manchester. ( also so she such doesnt get withdrawal symptoms from Robinsosns or the Mall of Asia....:)

We talked about this and she will be bringing jeans with her and less in the way of shorts. And then we need to get her some warmer tops and some shoes /boots ....

But my new family here in UK has been very helpful to take away the pain of missing my Phil. family. and my husband makes sure i get to talk to them every week. I hope your wife gets her visa without a hassle, just make everything clear with your documents and present as much proof of the two of you having a genuine relationship with accommodation and a healthy bank account and a good result will follow quickly :D

There are a few members here from around various areas of London, though I'm not sure of any in Bromley yet. I know a few Filipino here and there around London. There is an asian/filipino grovery store near me in Gillingham (that's not far from Bromley), Kent that is run by a filipino couple and I found this shop while seraching: Filipino Foods Supply Ltd, 284 High Street, Orpington, Kent. BR6 0ND. Phone number -01689 838330. Orpington is even nearer to Bromley! You'll have to vist the Bluewater shopping mall, which a few years ago when it was built, was the largest shoppng mall in Europe!

Hi I don live anywhere near London (Bromley) I am afraid. Where I live it isnt quite so cold in winter as some other places in the UK. But London is okay. And all the pinoys that I speak to here say that they get used to the climate here. My wife is aware of the cooler weather, but as soon as she steps foot off the plane ( literally ) I will be taking her to a mall in Manchester for some warmer clothes, than she has right now in Phils. :)

don`t worry .. our usual advice is get your hubby to take you up to the local catholic church at the end of service and you will bump into several Pinoys/Pinays. Also around the hospital there will always be filipina staff, just go to the nearest coffee shop to the hospital and you will bump.

Hi again, our biggest malls arent so disimilar to the Mall of Asia. But often items of clothing can be pricey. Depends on what you are after.

My wife likes Tribal clothing ( I dont think there is one in the UK? ) but I noticed that a] she takes a much smaller size than many UK females and b] that the fabrics in Phils are often that bit thinner as they don't need to be so thick. So our clothing tends to be more expensive for those reasons, amongst others.

I know this might sound a bit silly but I have a feeling she might well fit into our childrens range of clothing as she is 4ft 11" and a size 6. So we may find clothing is cheaper for her, here, for that reason. :)

Well, Bluewater does have quite a few designery/fancy shops which are more expensive, but it also has the usual high-street shops and quite often shops have sales on when you go anyway. There's also another shopping mall called Lakeside which is in Dartford and not far from Bluewater as well. The Asian/Filipino store near me in Gillingham is called Leo's Oriental mini-mart, 125 Canterbury street, Gillingham, Kent. ME7 5TT. tel no.: 01634 853000.

At least 12 Filipinas live in Beckenham alone ! (1-2 miles away).
Half the group met up in Nandos just this past Saturday night.
