I'm guessing you mean Manila Andy?
I've been in that position a few times myself. There's plenty to do in Manila, even if it's not the most exciting way of waiting to get to the airport:
Go to the cinema in one of the malls, have a general mooch around a mall, take a tour of Intramuros, go to Rizal Park, go to Chinatown, spend the afternoon in a bar:D:xxgrinning--00xx3:
I'm sure you'll find a way of keeping yourself busy, and have a great time on your trip over there:xxgrinning--00xx3:

It's definately worth planning your time carefully. Plan to arrive at the airport 2-3 hrs prior to your flight. Consider the traffic from wherever you are.
You can probably leave your bags in a secure room at the hotel until your ready, so thats an option.
If you do want to get some rest, you always have the 'Manila Airport Hotel' next to terminal 1, which do day rooms for a fairly reasonable rate.
Mall of Asia is nearby, and is a good place to mooch. Greenbelt, Makati is another option (but again leave an hour for getting to the airport).

Hotels are usually happy to keep your luggage safe for you after you've checked out. The only drawback of this is that if you plan to go out for the day you have to go back to the hotel later, although if it's a nice hotel they'll usually have a decent ground floor restroom that you can use to clean yourself up or get changed in.
Don't worry about being on your own, as long as you're careful, don't openly flaunt any signs of wealth and keep your eyes open Manila's no worse than any other major city

You could spend the day at Mall of Asia. If it's a weekday, it won't be too busy. You could watch a movie, browse the shops, have a meal, etc. You can use the "left luiggage" counter to store your bags (I've done this before).
Also, it's quite near the airport. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

What a wait that was 12 hours although the meals and entertainment was better with emirates the timing of the flight was bad. I think it will be klm in future. I spoke to a guy in the airport and it said it wouldnt be wise to leave the airport because it might be unsafe,

Leave which airport Andy? Manila or Dubai? You can't leave Dubai unless you have a UAE Tourist Visa anyway. Although they do offer a 2 or 3 hour transit bus tour of Dubai for passengers who have long transit waits there, but you aren't allowed off the bus:NoNo:
I've never felt unsafe in the surrounding area outside Manila airport in daytime. I spent many a day killing time in Manila after I've checked out of my hotel and am waiting to leave for NAIA for a late flight. There's always something to do there, even if it's just going to the cinema in a mall
