Hello Everyone!
If anyone of you here tried to get a police clearance from other country while you were in uk...I would like to know what are the steps you do? I got hired a job in the council but unfortunately i need to get a police clearance from the states as i lived there before we moved here. Any helps would be appreciated. many thanks

Not sure.

Maybe you could ask your local MP if he or she is not in jail. :laugher:

You can do it directly with the US, here:
http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks

This website gives guidance as well:

http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/emergencies/emergencies_1201.html

Otherwise this UK private company can arrange US Criminal checks.

My wife has needed CRB checks everytime she changed employers but has never needed to secure such checks herself.
Are you sure you're expected to do that?

Terpe, I'm guessing the trouble is, if she's been in the USA, they probably don't have a clue how to get the international background checks.

The US ones are fairly quick, I went through the FBI checks earlier this year and took about a week.

I actually did my clearance in the states, as I needed to get a Transport Security Agency Identity card. However, I recommend you get in touch with the agency in the UK. its just under 50 pounds to get a clearance, and I'm sure they'll help you out from here.

I see...I will go to the police station for fingerprints and fill-up all the form, payments and send it to the address on the website. Hopefully everything will be fine!
